"To the bitter end" - Eagle vs Asp

Don't want to give too much away so here's the video... a well armed asp.

Can someone more informed confirm if this thing had turreted beam lasers and possible a turreted plasma accelerator ?
Against my little Eagle which has 2 class 1 gimballed beam lasers and 1 gimballed class 1 cannon.

I took this NPC on and maybe shouldn't have, but I was after some combat practice near the nav beacon...

Anyway here it is.... enjoy..

It definitely has beam turrets. Early on, it's flying away from you with your ship at it's 6. It shoots you with a beam laser. Only turrets are omni-directional like that.

Also, he was equipped with chaff and proximity mines.

You can tell he had chaff when your gimballed weapons started dancing all over the place when you aimed at him.I would highly recommend switching to fixed beams on the bottom. You need to aim for yourself but they pack more punch and seem to overheat slower. As for the cannon on top, it seemed effective enough, just be careful when your opponent has shields online as it's usually a waste of ammo. Projectiles are much more effective against hull than against shields. I only see him drop one mine. So that's not too much to worry about but a few of those in a row can ruin your day.

The only other pointers I can give are to make sure you keep switching pips around as need be. I saw near the end of the fight that you kept trying to boost but we're unable to because your eng capacitor wasn't recharging. Even just putting 1 pip there will keep it charging.

The last thing I noticed was a few times he got incredibly close and you rammed him at one point. If you anticipate that your opponent is slowing after a turn, put your throttle into reverse (to the blue) and keep on target.

Other than that, I'd say good fight!

It always feels good taking out bigger ships in an eagle!

I don't think you can turret any of those direct fire weaps (plasma, rail guns and cannons). Only multi-cans and lasers can be turreted.

I think you'll find your job even more easy tbh with an eagle armed with 3 fixed beam lasers (because it is very hard for your opponent to keep shields up from beam laser onslaughts), but of course at the end of the day it is all personal preferences :)

I agree. Fixed beams are also excellent for sniping from the distance, which also helps against those lazy NPCs with turrets. :D

I've seen turreted cannons around empire space.
Not sure of plasma accelerators or rail guns though.

It started well, then got very hairy quickly!

Impressive piece of FSD piloting i must admit with no middle HUD. Your docking was more gungho than i would've suspected with a ship in that condition hehe :)

Bad things can happen at a Asp vs. Eagle!

1) Eagle has support
2) the dumb Asp pilot messes up with his shield cells.

Wow, Jorlin, I never saw such vicious Cobra! O.O

I knew Pythons that went down easier. And those MCannons impact sound gives me chills.

Hmm... high heat signature in an eagle, not at least 2-3 pips in engines all the time,
no heat sink or chaff, no silent running when shields were down.

The asp had turreted beams class 1 and definitely a proxy mine launcher.
Asp turned to its favor with top faced to you for beams to hit.
The bottom side of the Asp is where it's shell is softest.

If you like to inflict quick and low weapon powered hull damage take dumbfire missiles,
when using a gimballed ammo-weapon try to target the subsystems, they give in faster,
than a possibly reinforced hull.

Nice stand with your class 3 shield and no shield cells,
looking forward to other engagements you make.

Edit: and they really got me pants down... i was expecting to get attacked. but by someone else for a duel ;)

Thanks for the replies guys and thanks to Argus for the tips. All welcome as I was just out for combat practice and seemed to get into the deep end.

So what was the white stuff coming off the Asp (2m35s on the video)? Counter measures or something ?

The only reason I haven't gone for 3 lasers on the Eagle is that I'm told they will heat up much faster by having the 3 on there. So I decided either cannon or missile pack. The missile pack only stocked 6 missiles which was not enough so I went for cannon.
I know they're not much use against shields so any shots I took when the ship was shielded was either panic or adrenaline (or both) :)
Fixed lasers I've had for a while but I think once I hone my piloting skills a little more (like staying behind or in blindspots etc. basically out-maneuvering) then I will go to the fixed lasers and hone that skill down.
Basically I think all I had on my side there was maneuverability and a quite a bit of luck at the end. (thankfully I got the 10m life support upgrade) :)

Don't you have 2 magazines a 6 missiles per rack?
Correct me if i am wrong.

The problem is with the piloting, you need to stay maneuverable, which is increased by pips in engines.
I would suggest using less draining lasers than beams, and juggling between a full engines + half shields and full engines + half weapons power sets,
to perform with increased maneuverability, and using the odd faoff move to decelerate and turn quicker.
The eagle can make up for it;)

Interesting fight but not much sustained damage on the Asp. I'm not a great fan of beam lasers but haven't tried them in a while. Chaff or shield bank would have helped during that fight ;)
