to the DEVs Re: Oculus Touch

sorry if this is a repeated question (have looked).

are there any plans to implement/create a patch for the touch that give the player control of you hands? and allow interaction with the elements with in the pit? it would be awesome!! :D

there is one VR gam i have found that has donew this well (a solo Dev) VTOL VR check it out. (calm down! this is not an add, just wanted to site an example)

thank you in advance

Im sure this has been discussed before, perhaps amongst the threads. I think not a lot of people have interest in substituting a hotas for the touch, as it is cumbersome and you will get tired fast without physical support. However, upgrading the interfaces on Elite Dangerous to support touch is useful for some things (galaxy map) and, more importantly, it will future proof for when Oculus gloves arrive. They are making one and it will be awesome to actually see your hands and still be able to use a hotas.

While i enjoy using the Touch controllers a lot, a solution like Leap Motion would be much more accessible, especially when using a HOTAS setup. At best, Elite would get a setup system, to reposition the cockpit hardware (the joystick and the throttle in relation to the seat). It would also allow to type on a virtual keybeard far better, than with the touch controllers (5 fingers vs 1 finger per hand - 1 would already be a big improvement right now, though).

I don't see much use for the main game interface (ok flipping switches by hand may be nice, but not worth grabbing the controller every time. probably not worth devs time too), but galaxy map would be awesome. Galaxy map already isn't the most usable thing in VR, but being able to move, grab and rotate stuff, zoom in and out would be great. Still, devs have so many things to do that this passes to a second level.

I have a leap and disconnected it and put it back in the box years ago. While a wonderful concept it was unreliable in detecting what gesture I was making and as mentioned in another post, holding my hands & arms up was tiring for long periods.

That said, if leap support was built into Oculus and Elite, how sweet WOULD that be?

I play in VR using a HOTAS (the T16000M set) and I have little to no problem with the galaxy map. The only change to the default settings I made was to bind the zoom to the wheel on the left side of the throttle.

Adding a touch/leap interface would be interesting, zoom in by spreading your hands apart, turning and moving up or down with gestures. I can see possible issues with fine control but it would most likely be a learning curve issue...

What he said.

I'm personally satisfied with my current level of immersion in Elite. I'm hearing great things about Touch in X Rebirth though...

I returned my leap motion. Found it useless unless you are a game developer. It is not accurate enough for virtual keyboard typing in my opinion and it is not integrated to ED. I would have kept it if it could at least work as a decent camera to see the keyboard, but it doesn’t even work well for that.

I have little trouble with my hotas and galaxy map, but still find it a bit cumbersome and not intuitive. The solution will be the gloves in my opinion. Then perhaps cockpits can be enhanced to have functional switches, like those non functional ones in the srv to do things like deploy hardpoints, landing gear, scoop, lights, etc.

I would like to see it too in Elite - works great in Lone Echo.
