I'm fighting in a War Zone at Eravate when I see a two player ships turn red. One a FDL, one a Sidewinder. The FDL is Wanted, so I go for that. The shields in my Clipper aren't great so I bug out when they're low. Then I get a mouthful of abuse, told <guess the obscenity>, and that attacking him was out of order, that I should only be targeting NPCs.

You're a Wanted Commander, sir, fighting for the enemy faction in a Warzone. I have every right to go for you. And taking on 2 player ships, one a FDL isn't being a coward, as you called me. Neither is bugging out of a fight when you know you're beaten. That's all just part of the game. I have reported you to FD for your bad language.

I've never ever reported anyone for bad language as it seems a complete waste of Frontier's time and attention. If you're an adult, please consider just letting it slide.

Any time CS have is much better spent on things like hacker reports and investigating genuine bugs.

Maybe FDEV should put a rules of engagement post as some people seem to take offence at being shot at, for me it would be:
1) Your wanted - your on your own getting shot for being wanted is something that happens.
2) conflict zones - if you on the other side your going to get attacked
3) foul comms language isn't clever it just shows a level of immaturity.
4) if 1 or 2 isn't there and you shoot players you gonna a get a lot of people gunning for you real quick
5) no ramming if you can help it (especially around stations)

Yes , you can report players for abusive language, as well as other forms of anti-social behaviour. Every report builds a history up of those that are continuously abusive.

Its whatever the player making the report considers to be abusive.
Which might not be what FD considers to be abusive and therefore the report lodged won't necessarily effect the history of the CMDR against whom the complaint was lodged.

One thing came from it, we know now we can report foul language to FDEV if the person is being particularly excessively abusive.

And you've even gone out of your way to publicly have a go on the forums at this guy rather than just send him a message in game, at the time!

And we know we can be reported left and right even if we're not, and we have no way of knowing what FDEV will actually call 'abusive' or not until they ban us.

Surely common decency should be a solid yardstick?

I think the issue would be reporting is open the abuse, yes FDEV has the last word but its something that has created the world we live in at present and look how that turned out. There should be a limit after all some people are way to sensitive and these days people need a thicker skin.

Yes a tirade of abuse should not be tolerated but a off the cuff remark with a few swear words should just be ignored.
