Proposal Discussion To the pilot in the Eagle with high-level guns camping Federal Distress...

...well done. You killed me in my brand new sidewinder in <3 seconds. Congratulations.

To everyone else:

If we have "starting zones" where PvP kills are paid in proportion to killer/killee levels, then we avoid situations where Mr. Eagle and all his like manage to **** off new players who spend 10 mins flying into an area, 16 seconds in the new area, 3 seconds in "combat" (read: being a paper target) with Mr. Eagle and are then dead. I can't see this going down well when the game is finally released to those less dedicated than the Alpha/Premium Beta backers.

PvP griefing should be a part of this game, but I think in the "starting" zones killing a player wayyyyyyyy beneath your own level should provide significant diminishing returns. You can have six credits, Mr. Eagle, in line with the effort expended.

At the least I think the no-fire zone should be extended out to 10km from station, and the bounty for violation should be so high as to be a real deterrent.

I can sympathize with you here, but at the same time: beware, it's Dangerous out there!

Brand new starter Sidewinder with its borrowed popgun is no ship to try your luck in the combat zones (yes, the Federal Distress Call is one of those).

OR, you could chalk this up to a valuable learning experience? If there are players on the opposite faction, avoid them or kill them first. If they outclass you, I suggest the "avoid" route.

It kinda sucks that we're all crammed into this little playpen and there's only the one version of several instances to play in. But often if you just supercruise out and drop right back in you'll end up in a different instance with a different set of players.

Well, in the final game he will be promptly flagged as a griefer and stuck into griefers hell with the rest of his kind.
Btw, I think he just opened a thread in beta support forum saying that he got no bounty on his head by killing friendly commanders.
So he was 'testing' stuff.

Well, on one hand, it is a valuable test result - but on the other hand, it sucks to be at the receiving end.

IMHO tests like that need some off-game coordination, so unsuspecting testers don't get caught and don't get too many experiences of being griefed on. If anyone wants to test friendly fire mechanics, different weapon loadouts' effects etc., just PM me, I'm happy to be the guinea pig so regular testers can go on their testing of basic game mechanics unmolested. Or at least a tiny bit less molested. :)

What i wanna know, is did you chose a side? (right panel, under functions) And if so did he show up red or green for you. If he showed up red i think he has all the right to kill ya, if he showed up green and killed you then he is an at.

If he was red to you go to it again and join the other side. If you cant beat them, join them.

If it helps I've popped 2 or 3 eagles that attacked me in there in my sidewinder in the last half hour.

You really have to keep your eyes peeled.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Pretty much this. I sympathize with you - I do. I've been killed several times in the Fed distress zone but it's been due to my being on the opposing side.

There are other zones to farm in. And there's trading.

I'm all for having a wider range of cash generating activities - and there will be further down the line. Right now, though, farming bounties is the best (read: fastest) way to generate bank, and that does come at a risk.

Also in the finished game there will be (I've read) greater, more lasting consequences for destroying a player. Then again, if you did choose a side here and your opponent was red on your radar....well, that's the nature of the zone.

was he on your side, and did he wait for you to pick sides?

so long as you were on the opposite team you are fair game I am afraid (that being said i never attack a human player 1st either way..... more fool me!!)

but if he was not on the opposite team then you are right it is griefing imo

I agree with the station influence extension. I was thinking the exact same thing. Plus the police presence will help.

You should get no bounty for killing someone unlawfully if thats how it works. You should become a bounty. Big bountys become targets for other players.

To be perfectly honest this situation is down to the developers. I don't see its a players fault for attacking another one and would hate to have extended no fire zones. Its Elite Dangerous, not my lil pony in space.

When I say its down to the developers what I mean by that is there is no grouping function or comms system implemented yet and as such the game plays like a single player one but where we meet other people. If someone is on the opposing faction in a combat zone then its fair game.

There are alternatives of course, even though we can't group or team up with players directly via the game atm, what we can do is get in the same instance and server together. I helped a guy earlier on today who said he was having the same problem being killed.

So rather than call for the game to be dumbed down my suggestion is to find a vent or TS and group up with like minded players. Its fun chatting with people and playing the game together and you can fight off aggressors. So my view is that if that isn't being done then there is little to complain about and frankly its got to take less effort to do than complaining and having a miserable time.

Alternatively find a different place to go fighting.. there are quite a few..

:)

That will work both ways. People will be ganging up to prey on the weak. And the people ganging up will be more likely to do that for that reason.

Have you tried what I suggested?

I have no ability 2 team up with anyone.
I may never team up with anyone, lone wolf it maybe if thats how I choose. I shouldnt need to be in a gang just to survive if I dont want to.
And I'm not having a problem with being killed by other players to feel a need to team up as yet.

So no I have not tried what you suggested, but I still dont see a problem with what I suggested either. I think it makes sense.

In the final release you'll be able to avoid others in the various solo and group system. However, the game is multiplayer and I think many people don't seem to get that.

Why don't you have the ability to log onto a teamspeak or vent, perhaps create a thread on the forums asking, and then co-ordinate yourselves on the same server and instance?

Don't have the ability or don't want to ?:S

I dont have the equipment.

I will be playing multiplayer, well probably, if it works. I probably wont bother teaming up, I will probably lone wolf. I dont know yet. I'll see how it goes.

I can still enjoy the MP without the need to hang about in a group everywhere I go.

I popped a player Eagle in the Federal Distress zone by running cold, sneaking up on him, and popping in a bunch of shots before he knew I was there.
