To the Rift in a Red Diamondback!...

After a short while I felt like leaving the Bubble again, so I parked my Orca and, after finding it impossible to build an Adde with 30+ jump range, I settled for going back out in a Diamondback Explorer.. to make it less mainstream I had it painted red. :D As opposed to my last expedition in my Orca, I am alone in the ship this time, and my primary goal is to reach the area of the Galaxy called the Formidine Rift. So far I gave left the Bubble behind and am heading vaugely for the Heart and Soul.

Diamondback surely looks good in red.

That DBE does look good in red*

Good luck with your trip, I went out that way last year in a DBE (yellow, unfortunately) -- a loop up through barnards er loop, out to the crab nebula, across to H&S and then quite a direct root back as the space madness was starting to set in... but lots to see.

*<obligatory comment about the DBE needing an extra internal slot...>

Indeed the Red Ones Go Faster!... especially in Supercruise!... :)
So, I'm sort of closing in on the Heart and Soul now... and this was an awesome place to stop and have some beer. Yeah, I've got beer with me... It's not a Sidewinder, you know.. :)

Some CMDRs have excellent aim, apparently.. :) I just visited a really nice system with a whole bunch of HMCWs, two water worlds, and one Earth-Like... and it was all unclaimed.. well.. except the Earthlike.. which had a binary companion Water World.. that was untagged!.. :) Talk about being selective. :)
The far one is the ELW.

The NGC 7822 nebula just ahead of you in the pic from yesterday is a lovely place to visit, I'm currently surveying the S171 systems within it, all O type primary stars with accompanying F, B, A, black holes and various planets.

Looking forward to getting back to it tonight

Yes.. I payed NGC 7822 a short visit on the way past it. I basked in the light of pretty blue O-stars, and scanned some of the black holes. Saw the Discovery Tags of one of the Classic Explorers there as well... :)

I am now about 2kLYs from the Soul Nebula.. been happily Hollyhopping along, and stopped to tag some Gas Giants in a partially tagged system centered on an orange giant. We are now three explorers sharing that system. :) I also landed on a rock orbiting a really, really ringed Brown Dwarf.

Today I have entered the Rift.. I see lots of Darkness and Void.. so far no strange signal sources or alien space stations.. :) One anomaly though is that I seem to find more O-class stars than what I would expect in a region that shouldn't have seen much recent star formation. I ended the day's search in an O-class system containing a single planet.. a gas giant with a mysteriously prominent equatorial belt.. looked a bit like a giant Space Station with an equatorial trench to someone going crazy from the desolation out here.. :)

It was tagged by Allitnil.. :) Most stuff out here is untagged, though.

Oddly enough I'm heading that way now after having just popped back into the bubble for more Pringles.

Under the bubble... CMDR CHIGGY VONRICTOFEN.
Over the bubble... CMDR CHIGGY VONRICTOFEN.
First discovered system after 6 months in deep space.... CMDR CHIGGY VONRICTOFEN.

I'm starting to think that coming to the Rift with a Diamondback and no SRV was a little bit of a folly. I seem to have hit what the maps call the Formidine Wall... there is no way forward. This is the second time I hit it, though last time I had a few LY shorter jump range and now idea I was in the Formidine Rift, since I had never heard the name back then.. :)
Thing is, my 3 or so extra LYs jump range makes almost no difference... maybe I should leave the Rift to the Anaconda Drivers...

Still, there is interesting stuff here:
An ammonia World in the Rift.. imagine my dissapointment when there were no Alien City Lights on its night side.. :)

This was unfortunately just a graphical glitch, and not a hollow planet with a huge gun port:

Still, there's beauty out here:

Great pics of the red DBX, i have taken one out (on Xbox sadly so no SRV either) but interestingly where would you fit the SRV? give up AMFU or Shields?

mines white :)
