To the video makers...?

When you produce your vids and post them on Youtube, what considerations do you need to make regarding any music you use? Does Youtube remove audio it recognizes as copyright etc? Or are you free to use anything?

So given music is such an important thing for a video production what's the options then...

I've placed videos on YouTube over the years with various music on, and none have had their audio removed etc?

So let's say I produce an ED video with music by say Red Shift or Tangerine Dream, are we talking about a non-issue in reality?

I have had some videos removed in the past, even if there were only seconds of background music in it, that I hadn't put in myself. So I only use music that I have the licence for or that needs no licence.

You can look around for royalty-free music; some of it is quite good. Look on youtube or google and add a category to your search, i.e.: royalty free dubstep.

I know a starving musician; I helped him with last month's rent and he's doing sound for some of my video projects.

A lot of smaller-time musicians are pretty Ok with having their stuff used. They're hard to get hold of to ask permission from, though.

If you use something like Tangerine Dream, the band probably won't care but the publishing company might. And - whatever you do - don't mess with anything owned by Disney.

I use corel videostudio which has a pretty cool patch-assembly theme music generator thing. It's not masterpiece stuff but if you want some basic beats and whatnot, your video editing tool may have what you need built right into it. The problem I have with pulling stuff off youtube (even royalty-free) is that the track length very very seldom matches whatever it is I am trying to do.

I made a vid last year with copyright music included (Jewels by Solarstone).

The info for my video says this...
Youtube said:
Ads might appear on your video.
Copyrighted content was found in your video.
The claimant is allowing their content to be used in your YouTube video. However, ads might appear on it.
VIEWING RESTRICTIONS - None
MONETISATION - Can't monetise video
Monetised by claimant
If you agree with these conditions, you don't have to do anything

CONTENT CLAIMANT POLICY
Jewel - Pure Radio Edit - Clare Stagg
Sound recording
0:07 - 3:42 play match
[Merlin] Black Hole Recordings
On behalf of: Black Hole Recordings
Monetised by copyright owner
Remove song
File a dispute
That's a fair trade-off. I'm not a video producer with subscribers and loads of vid views. If I was to monetise my own productions, THEN a copyright holder is likely to get tetchy.

^^ That's it really. You can get away with using a lot of music, as long as you aren't monetizing your channel.

I have looked for music that the authors have stated they allow free use. The usual condition is that they are credited. Some will use ads, others will not.

If there's a particular piece of music I want to use, I search YouTube for it. If it's up there, and has been for a few months, then they will allow use of it.

There are many royalty free music sites out there, and tons of royalty free music on youtube. Just make sure you read the terms and conditions of use, and abide by them. Use some common sense, and when you can link back to the creator of the music. Quite often they will appreciate their music being listened by a larger audience.

Do what I have learned to do, if you are unsure about the music you are wanting to use, or dont know where it came from or who made it, upload it to youtube as a blank video and make it private.. Wait about 10minutes and see if you get a copyright claim on the music you uploaded.

Even if it is copyrighted, in many cases you can still use the music, but you cannot monetize the video...

Youtube has softawares and personnel to detect copyright infractions. If you are lucky you are not spot or the author doesn't care as long as you don't monetize.
If you are unlucky the entire video can be deleted, and at 3rd infraction your account can be erased with all its contents. You can make a new account but all the visibility you gained with the deleted one is gone.
Such a thing happened to 2 persons i know in real life, but they have hundred thousands wievs to their videos, a number impossible to achieve with Elite content.
Basically I wouldn't try luck, use copyright free music, or in some occasion you can pay a small amount of money to the owner of the rights to be able to publish their music. It's about 15 euros or so.

Yeah, I think it’s true. I had made an advertisement video for my product last month with the help of a product video production team in Hamilton and they had made a beautiful ad with a good background score, but unfortunately, they removed the video saying it has got copyright issues and I had to make another music to get published my video in Youtube.

Yeah even if you are not making money on your videos you need to be very careful with what you use. I've heard of people getting screwed when they use royalty free music or something they have acquired the right to use for.
