You can relax now :D

"LONDON (Alliance News) - Video games developer Frontier Developments PLC on Monday said it has licensed rights from an unnamed Hollywood studio to develop its third game franchise.

Frontier said its third franchise will be based on an "enduring movie franchise of global renown", but provided no further details on which movie franchise the game will be based on. It said further details will follow later in 2017.

The new game will be the third developed by Frontier after Elite:Dangerous and Planet Coaster.

"The third franchise is an important next step in our growth. We have chosen to license this particular IP to work with as our third franchise, because we believe we can create something very special. It is creatively stimulating, already has a high worldwide profile, and is a perfect match for our expertise," said Frontier Developments Chief Executive David Braben."

However that will take resources and manpower away from ongoing game development (ED/PC), how they are going to manage that will be interesting.

I'm more concerned about priorities and lack of focus...
The rollercoaster game is going to be a bigger hit than ED and as such, no doubt, commands a larger share of dev focus and attention.

Add a major Hollywood movie franchise into the mix and who knows which dev will be left to mow ED's lawn.

About the only thing that give me (serious) hope for some significant time/priority/resources put into further ED development is Brabens personal interest in it. With most big studios ED would be firmly on the back burner. Money was never really an issue. IMHO.

Thank you for bringing data. Every schmuck who ever took a business class likes to pretend Fdev is in peril. They are not. That paint job you buy is not saving the company despite what some people like to think.

No but it does make sure Fdev don't abandon the game for more profitable ventures, servers aren't cheap to run.

i'm sure they are less worried about their finances than i am about mine!
they did smart move by porting elite to consoles (one of the reasons this season is a year late) so now they can focus on real content and maybe delivering it to us, i believe 10years DEV roadmap starts from now

Well thats a load off my mind.

I struggle to sleep at night if I don't know the latest financials for a company I buy a product from.

How's Tesco doing this week? Is it safe to give Dominoes money for pizza?

Products like Pizza and other short term products really doesn't matter. However Imagine if you time warped back to when the iPhone was introduced, and you needed a new phone.

Nokia or Apple? Nokia was one if not the biggest mobile phone producer in the world, where are they now???

Elite Dangerous is not a short term product for many of us, this is a journey, and we would like to know if the ship that takes us on this journey is in good shape and can bring us all the way to the finish line.

A lot of people are concerned, but the concern is not built on facts.

That's because it already has! do you know how many paintjobs I bought [noob]?

Z...

Elite is one of many games I play and while it would be sad if it were to shutter I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Nor will I worry about the stock market position for any company whos games I play/own.

Ok, we need a movie and video game buff to figure out which franchise this is about. Anyone care to venture a guess?

I've taken a look at this Wikipedia page but I'm not sure it's complete, and I don't know if studios being owned by other studios count towards the given number ("it's third game franchise").

Jurassic world tycoon coaster park game thing.

Blade Runner or Dune I'm thinking. Both have reboot movies coming out.

The voice of reason. Lots of crystal ballers here.

Sure, I'm playing many games too, however as I spend a lot of time in this game, I would like to know if the game will last next year or if there is a risk of dumping it.
The reason for this thread was due to some members of the community were concerned about the finances of the company.
