To viper or not to viper

I just have to ask.

I saw a new peek of the week picture of a truly beautiful Viper craft.
It looks like the smaller brother of the Viper mk II designs that were presented to us early on and that we have also seen doing combat in videos like the Devdiary 3.

I love the peek of the week viper, but I have to say that I also love the earlier, more aggressive design, that also seemed to be much larger, with a cargo hatch in the front and a very expansive interior. It even had walkways in the engine pods if I am not mistaken.

My hope is that both craft from the same manufacturer will be featured in the game.

My fear is that the first design, which is equally great, is out of the game now. That would be such a terrible shame. When I first saw that Viper mk II design I was smitten. It had the appearance of a capable combat ship, but also had ample cargo space. Please keep it in the game. Make it a Viper mk IV or name it Super Viper, or whatever, but please keep it in the game.

Does anyone have more info on this?

I hope the old one makes it into the game as well. Even if it's just in an expansion.

Does anyone now if we have a "Python" yet? :D

Hope we see earlier 'big' Viper in the game too, as well as the new smaller Viper.

Small Viper: everyday response and enforcement.

Big Viper: for more 'robust' police actions, and when unnecessary use of force is required.

Clarification was sought from Michael B in the 'Peek of the week' thread, but it's still.... unclear.

I think we can see a python here between the asp and the anaconda.

Just guessing though.

dont know if that's the thing but it's been confirmed in one of the newsletter mostly harmless quesions, maybe the #8, not sure about the number, but surely confirmed.

Nooooooooooo! That Viper mk II in the original concept art is the ship I wanted. Looks fast and with decent cargo space too.

Please let it be in the final game.

Ok, let's try to it together:

Viper Mk III

Viper Mk III

Not Viper Mk II

Viper Mk I was in Elite
Viper Mk II was in Frontier Elite 2 and Frontier First Encounters
Viper Mk III is in Elite: Dangerous

The problem here is, of course, that the newsletters also keep getting this wrong, but Michael has confirmed this in the Private Backers Forum and to all the Elite authors almost a year ago...

My only worry i had about the original viper was its god awful vision from the canopy. That is fixed in the new model but the ships are so different that i think it could be in the game with the new one as well. Even if not flyable it could make a formidable defence craft for use by the military or police in some areas.

Once we have planetary landings imagine doing some terrorist/freedom fighter missions on a planet and that turning up with 15 troops armed to the hind teeth in the back

Indeed, with some small changes, it would make a nice police or military gunship/corvette.

The peek of the week gets released in the private backer forum first but it's officially publically released material and usually ends up on the wiki or in the Elite Dangerous sub-reddit.

If you want to see the viper someone has already posted it over at /r/EliteDangerous

Are you sure, because last week they said it was the MkII. A year ago is not as recent news as last week.

Mr Brookes said yesterday that the last newsletter was incorrect. The new Viper is a Mk III or "Type 88" apparantly
