Newcomer / Intro To weak shield?

I got my Anaconda today, and I do long haul missions. I have a 4D Shield Generator, 2 x 1A shield boosters, and 2 x Chaff Launchers.
Just now I got pulled out of superspeed, and my shields were damages in 2 seconds. I used the Chaff Launchers while boosting like crazy, but the attacker still hit me just as much. So before I was able to use my FSD again, I was killed. This was after travelling 410Ly with a cargo worth 35M, at the last jump.

- So, is my shield to weak? I always thought the shields of an Anaconda was so strong.
- Do I need hull reinforcements? I also thought that Anaconda had good armour, but I got killed in a few seconds.
- And the Chaff Launchers.... Any idea why I still got hit the same after launching them?

Last question: Does anyone have a good outfit for long haul missions?

I would say the Class 4 shield is there just to stop you scratching the paint when landing.
I am also new to Conda for a couple of days. But I have a class 6 shield and it lasted quite a while in a combat with single ships until a FAS and a python attacked and it crumpled very fast and I lost 50% hull before I got away.
They scratched my new ship :-{

It's not just weak. It's pretty much non-existent.
Anaconda has good shields, because she can equip big shield generator.

When comes to shield strength, think of it as a rubber balloon. If you stretch small shield over a big ship, it'll be too thin. A4 shield on a small Cobra is great, but Anaconda is much bigger.

When I was running a trading Annie, I had A5 shield and ton of shield boosters and that is a bare minimum that'll allow you to survive long enough to jump out. If you want to have strong shield that can take a beating and will allow you to fight, you'll have to sacrifice the Class 7 internal compartment.

If you mouse-over the shield generator in Outfitting, you will see the shield strength down below in the ship stats. You need at least 500MJ if you want to survive without too much trouble. More is better, of course, but you need to find a balance between shield strength and cargo space. So buy at least A5 shield generator. A6 if you want to play it safe and be also able to run from pirate commanders.

  1. Yes you need at least a size 5 shield (preferably A rated). Optimum mass for the shield should be bigger than the bare hull mass of the ship, an Anaconda is 400t a size 4 shield's optimum is 285t.
  2. Yes/no/maybe, it depends what you are doing, they will improve strength at the cost of speed, rang and capacity. Stronger bulkheads can cost a fortune but at least they don't use up module slots.
  3. Chaff is less effective the larger the ship is, it doesn't work at all against fixed mount weapons.

My build advice is get rid of the chaff and fit 2 point defence on the front lower pair of utility slots and another 2 on the rear top slots, the other 4 are for shield boosters.

Engineer the FSD for 30LY Max range LADEN

Then you can also mod the boosters as well for more shield strength, Easy formula for boosters is 50/50 split Heavy Duty and Resistance Augmented.

Slap Dirty Drive Grade 5 on there as well and you should be fine.

My Exploraconda has 4a shields boosted to 922mj - and still has 48.91LY max jump range. 5A thrusters grade 5 Dirty Drives

Not worried about coming back to the bubble. Anything that could hurt me won't be able to high wake as far.

Ok, so a class 4 shield generator can be fitted on something like a Cobra Mk III which is about 1/4 of the size of an Anaconda. Imagine that little shield generator trying to project the shield over a giant Anaconda. Also a D graded one so it's built with old parts and lightweight stuff. In short all it's good for is landing collisions.
Check out Coriolis shipyard and put a build in, it gives a shield strength at the top.

Personally I'd look for 6A shields in the Anaconda unless I was making a pure combat build in which case I'd use that class 7 slot. Changing from 4D to 6A will change your shield strength by about 1.5x your current. You could use 6D shield gen if doing long range hauling.
Hull, if you are doing combat yes I'd take a few to survive longer. Note they don't help much against missiles, you wanna fit some point defence to defend against those.

Chaff, they only distract your opponents weapons, if they are close enough they can still get lots of hits as the Anaconda is a very big target so easier to hit.

I'd look at something like this:
https://coriolis.io/outfit/anaconda...3064i05053704040303032f.AwRj4yuqg===.Aw18ZlA=

put the chaff and point defence near the back of the ship and the rest at the front. Remember that using high wake is better than low wake but generally it doesn't matter for the Anaconda. A lot of the time if you see text top left saying "theres the big haul.." etc the best thing is to slow and drop out of supercruise yourself to avoid the interdiction even happening. The other way if you see a ship right behind you is to double tap the FSD button and take 2% damage to avoid the interdiction.

Play around with that link there and look at shield strength and how it changes with module size/grade.

Edit: As above you can (if you have 2.1 update) engineer your FSD, distributor and shield/shield boosters for more range/engine boost/shield strength. But having a good base starting point is crucial. Also one I'd advise is the Efficient powerplant mod which allows you to fuel scoop and charge the FSD at the same time if it's good enough.

Did you mean to post a link to a build that doesn't fly??

I'd amend it slightly with 5A PP and 6D Thrusters.

I'd also consider 2 mine launchers in the small hardpoints at the rear of the ship.

Lose the chaff completely - IMO total waste of time in a 'Conda in PVE anyway. NPCs just seem to have fixed weapons and killer aim or maybe just flat out ignore chaff effects.

Then go to Inara.cz, look up Elvira/ Felicity and work out your plan for unlocking the FSD extended range.

Oops, my bad, adding the shield & boosters put me over mass and I didn't realise. my bad :p
