Engineers Todd Blaster

Hello everyone, newbie here, I just finished upgrading my 4A multi cannons to the end of grade 5 Overcharged and I went to do more upgrades like long range and it asks me if I want to overwrite my previous upgrade. Can you only upgrade one offering fully to grade 5 from an Engineer and add no other up grades?

You can have only one primary upgrade like overcharged OR long range OR lightweight..... etc on a single weapon plus a single experimental like corrosive OR incendiary OR oversized.... etc on the same weapon.

Best to store the OC modded MC and start with a stock weapon and apply a different mod+experimental, use Inara to help with mods and mats required

OP, also I just found out about https://coriolis.io which is another great tool that helps you figure out how any changes to your loadout (from modules to engineering upgrades) affect your ships performance, heat signature, jump range, speed, power consumption, everything. Set up your ship, then click the wrench icon in your module to assign engineering uodrades. It’s also a very useful tool.

Agreed Coriolis (and EDSY) are great ship building tools, Coriolis can also output the mat/data required for a build, check the open hex around a cog at the top right, Inara can also generate "crafting lists" for engineering modules https://inara.cz/cmdr-craftinglists/.

Using EDMC with the Inara API allows you to upload ship/modules/mats/data to Inara (registered account) so you can check what you have in stock for upcoming builds, handy if you're going to build half a dozen Corvettes ;)
