Too bloody much combat.

I wasn't in a ring with any specific sites, it's just a pristine ring. No matter where I drop in, there's immediately pirates, usually plenty. Most of the time I can outrun them, but if they've got a couple of faster ships, I have no alternative but to jump out again, since it's not really feasible to fight back in a mining ship.

And, I've dropped into rings with beacon points, but far from the beacons, and STILL been ganked by pirates (npcs, that is, I only play solo).

However you slice it, it's too much.
Don't try to outrun them. Unless you are carrying engineers cargo, drop in, and let them scan you. If you have nothing but limpets, they will not harm you. I even go so far and to fly to them, and let them scan me. Once they scan you and declare you useless, they will wander off, and you should go the other direction till they are well off your radar. You should not see them again. Commence mining. This has worked for me every time without fail, mining without combat.

Also an important question... Any "Engineers" commodities on board? Did you get some canister of "Modular Terminals" from a mission, not realize, and it's still sitting there?

In my experience, having just one of these cargo onboard will seem to spawn interdictions until you drop/sell/use them.

Oh, have you got any outstanding missions on your Transactions tab? Also can spawn pirates (especially stacked mining missions).

My tip? Don't mine in a T7. Don't do anything in a T7. It's not called the Flying Coffin for nothing.

For myself, I never drop anywhere close to a RES. Just drop anywhere in the ring that's well lit by sunlight. I personally only very rarely see ships wanting to attack me.

The T7 is meant to be a joke. There's no alternative unless you have the empire rank to get a clipper (about 5 months ago my ranking grinded to a halt at Lord 17%) . The Asp doesn't hold enough and the Python costs a fortune. I call it the T7 phase where you have to learn how to get by in an inferior ship and master your evasive tactics. However, it's only worthwhile purpose is to turbo trade your way into a Python. You can mine better in an Asp.
I recommend visiting the engineers and tuning your T7 into a beast just to mess with people.

I don't really mind the T7. I like having all that cargo space, makes for some very profitable runs. The only issue is that I'm attacked every time I drop to normal space (which would happen no matter what I'm flying).

I just wish I could get a cooler looking ship, the T7 is a bit clunky looking (as was the T6... the Keelback was a little better, but lacks the stats of the T6 or 7).

My favourite ship so far has been the Adder. I like the fact the bridge is a small room, not just a closed in chair, and I like the vaguely space shuttle shape. If they made a larger version of that ship, I'd be delighted.

When I had a T9, I had a go at mining in it.

Every time I dropped in to a random spot on a ring, not a RES (wasn't even a populated system), a pirate or 10 would spawn.
Every. Single. Time.

Sold it, and got an Anaconda.
No pirates, mined in peace for a few hours. Lol

The T7 is also a known death trap, and I'm surprised it hasn't been recalled. Lol

If you can afford it, use a Python, or Asp.

Also, ditch the docking computer.
Docking is so easy, it's not even required, not like the original games.
As long as you have shields, gear down, and face the right way, you can basically land any old how!

Thirdly, when using the docking computer, line up with the slot with the green light on the right otherwise you will get the problem you experienced, where the computer attempts to re-orientate the ship the correct way.

As far as getting really annoyed with the docking computer, this is what you are doing wrong. Letting the computer take over when you are no where near aligned for a 'proper' entry, going too fast or engaging it too close to the mail slot will nearly always result in the computer goofing up.

Really though, learning to do it manually is not as tricky as it seems and if you do scrape a little in or out its just shields so who cares.

Oh, I can land manually, I just find it a little tedious, and I had the space for the computer. Lets me go get a sandwich while the ship docks. Usually.

Mining Cutter for the Win :D

6hrs pre limpet speed nerf on 3Ps selective mining. Drop into the ring away from any res site. just fly slow and "drop to close" always 1 initial spawn , pirate or miner then its quiet.

T7 has its use, a good way to see a rebuy screen quickly.

There is a trick to mining in peace and quiet:

Position yourself between planet and RES whilst in SC - just as you do when approaching a big station. Then head for RES. When in the RES, turn around so that you get the planet right ahead of you (this just to have a reference point later on so that you do not go around in circles when bouncing from rock to rock prospecting). Boost and boost and boost some more until you are roughly 30-40km from the RES beacon. Make sure your radar is clean even when fully zoomed out. Then start mining.

Absolutely nothing will bother you. All the pirates will spawn near the RES beacon, not on top of you.

(edit: and ditch the docking computer. Learn to do it manually. It soon enough becomes second nature, something you do almost half asleep - and still be faster and safer than letting the docking computer do it. As an extra bonus, you can use that module-slot for something actually useful...)

Confirmed, this works and I do it myself. Do keep an eye on the radar...occasionally a pirate conda will wander your way...just boost out of range maintaining the same distance to RES.

EDIT: I've also found that making a fast transit to the other side of the RES ususally shakes the tail as they are intercepted by police, bounty hunters or an easier quarry.

The insta-spawning of pirates any time you enter a ring is ridiculous. You can be in an unpopulated system, way off in the ring of some planet somewhere, not near any stations, not in a RES site, a place that's as out-of-the-way as possible to get and still be in the bubble, and there will miraculously be pirates there, waiting to scan you for tasty cargo.

Talk about destroying the illusion of space. It's terrible.

OP, I can confirm that if you drop in and then fly a good distance off after letting the first pirates scan you, you will be left alone. Of course that means you can't carry cargo when you drop in, because if they scan you and see cargo they will attack.

It also means that once you've started mining, if you then need to disconnect for any reason and you log off while in the ring instance, the pirates will re-spawn near you when you log in again. And this time you'll have cargo.

So if you really need to disconnect, get out of the ring instance first, at the least. Even better, go sell your stuff and then log out.

I am not allied (except with all three major powers), wanted or participate in PP (left it months ago), carrying any cargo whatsoever, and when I drop into ring to mine (away from the RES of any type) invariably I do get a visit from some NPC that wants my non-existent cargo. Or once I do have a refined material in the hold.

I've learned how to deal with them, I engage and blast them out of space since now I mine in a mostly level 5 Corvette modded everything and spec effects weapons, or in likewise equipped Python. It took a while to get the Corvette (grind rank/CR's/engineers) and similarly the Python. But it was worth the work and now NPC bounties are padding my capital investment (you now the Thargoids are going to be expensive to deal with and will probably make NPC's look like pushovers).

I have found that once you eliminate the initial NPC incursion, you are left alone to mine unhindered.

Yes, after the first encounter, you're free to mine in peace. The problem I'm having is there's ALWAYS a first encounter. It shouldn't be that way.
