Too much cash?

What if you have all the ships, a couple each of your favorites outfitted for different roles and several Anacondas acting as parts mules? Nevermind, I know the answer. F-Dev, give me more ships. I want combat variants of all the cruise ships, race variants of Mamba and FDL and a Panther Clipper even if it sucks.

All the ships .. what about building a fleet of cutters with prismatic shields? You could try and have one docked at every federation & alliance starport :p

Donate it to poor players. I have only 400 M in assets, e.g.

Get Odyssey - go out of the bubble in a random direction - like 1000-2000 ly away - and get into Exobiology.
By the time you reach Elite, you'd have 8+ billions
By the time you reach Elite V you'd have 30 billions.

Nice, clean, relaxing activity with lots of nicely colored tenuous atmospheric planets (sometimes purely amazing) - perfectly doable even in a Sidewinder with a store bought G1 Artemis suit

I never made any Elite rank either. I usually switch activities frequently and that gets basically nothing done in ED.

I took part in the Void Opal mining thing from way back when,as I wanted to build up my balance quickly to outfit a new 'Conda and update my other ships.
I found myself deciding, arbitraily, to continue to 500M. Then I stopped, sorted out my ship purchases and bugged off on a trip (which I am still on) and my resting balance is 418M+ it seems ever since.
I've nothing really to spend even 400M on much less 4B .....Almost feels like ships, insurance and the whole economy system in ED is way off the rails and meaningless now!
Ain't complaining 'cos my play style is out in the void doin' my thing but I can see why folks are rolling eyes at the ED economy state. The uproar if there ever was to be a reckoning ..... LOL

A combat Krait Mk2 will cost about 300 millions
A combat Cutter or Corvette will cost in excess of 1 billion. And the rebuy would be around 50 millions.

Sure, a lightweight Explorer can be less than 20-30 millions.

There is already a cash-sink built into the game: political donations.

I'm lazy so I'm copy-pasting from an old post from about a year ago on the subject:

If your intention is to reach a stage where your balance is sufficiently low that earning credits will start to mean something again, then start making political donations.

Right from the beginning in 2014, I chose to almost exclusively support the Federation. I did end up Friendly with the Alliance without trying, but I have remained Neutral (actually in negative closer to Unfriendly) with the Empire, and merely a Serf, while being Allied and Admiral with the Federation. A big part of this allegiance has been that the Federation requires me, whenever docked, that I make political donations to Federation factions with whom I’m not yet Allied. It costs me a fortune, but it’s an obligation. As a result, after more than 7 years and thousands of hours I have “only” 750 million credits to my name, one ship (a Cobra Mk III), and some stored modules from ships I previously owned and engineered (only owning one ship at a time over the years, like the Phantom which I owned for 4 years).

Often I find myself making a loss in credits over several play sessions, and need to go and do something profitable (though enjoyable) to make some money back. Honestly, playing this way has meant that for me, credits have always meant something (also because I never used any of the grindy get-rich-quick exploits/schemes).

So maybe give it a go. Support a worthy superpower and its many factions. Which of course would be the Federation. I guarantee you it won’t be long before you feel like the “support” mission board is bleeding you dry. But it’s all for a good cause.

Forward the Federation!

Update to the above: a year later my credit balance has now increased from about 750 million credits to... about 765 million credits

Bribery is one of my favourite activities - usually just to get to allied so I can steal more commodities per mission.

Naturally I wouldn't consider supporting any particular power or faction, just the ones from whom I might profit overall. I've probably greased palms with a couple of billion over the last few years...

The thing about having money is that the bigger your bank balance in the first place, the easier it gets to increase it. This is as true in Elite as it is in a real economy. If you've got the billions to pay for the deposit on a carrier, then you can use that carrier to make that money back then some, and it's likely that by that point you'll also have a few other ships which you can use for profitable activities.

Players have also discovered and disseminated various ways to optimise gameplay loops so as to maximise profitability. But not everyone is aware of how to ruthlessly hone their playstyle, or they may choose to play differently. Seems like a hard balance to get right, and personally I don't blame FDev for erring on the generous side since there are various ways to burn money.

Indeed Northpin, though I fear you are taking me too literally ...

Hmmmm ....this is something I myself never really considered tbh .....one to keep in mind when / if I ever make it back to the bubble. Cheers!
