Too much hand holding!

I've been reading lots of threads on here where every time someone complains about a mechanic of the game the fan boys jump all over them claiming everyone these days wants to be hand held, spoon fed blah blah blah.
I have a great idea. Let's actually make this into a REAL hard core space sim!

First off, when you start the game you should have to pass a test. To prepare for the test you will be directed to forums and youtube videos teaching you how to play the game, fly a spaceship etc. When you feel you have a grasp of things you will write an exam and if you pass you get to enter the next stage of the game. That's more real isn't it?

Next you will have to get in your ship and do a flying and landing test. If you pass you actually get to start the game. That's more real isn't it?

Next you will have to start up your engines, wait for 20 minutes for them to spool up, start programming your guidance system, start up your computers and weapons systems. Once all of that is done and you have set your comms on the right frequency you can request permission to launch and wait your turn to do so. After about a half hour or so, you will be able to launch and start flying. That would be more real wouldn't it?

When you return to a station for fuel or repairs you should have to shut all your systems down in reverse order of startup, and then wait the required time for fueling and repair. That would be more real wouldn't it?

When you die in space, you should be DEAD. No starting back at the station with a free sidey, and whatever money you still have in your bank account along with your ships in storage. Nope! Start from scratch again. That's more real.

What? No you say. That's ridiculous! Where are all the fan boys wanting to not be spoon fed, hand held and want everything to be real????? Right now you couldn't be MORE hand held. All you have to do in these space ships is click launch, and a moment later you are flying around without a care. No difficulty there. Manage a couple systems through voice attack and click the fire button. Most people in the sim community would call that arcade.

I guess you don't really know what a real sim is, do you? I guess you only want it to be kind of real.

Ya, 3rd person view would make it so unrealistic and break immersion. Better tutorials and a detailed flight manual would make the game too easy and ruin the experience. A movie at the start of the game setting up the Elite story and drawing the new player into the Elite world would RUIN the whole experience and make it less real. Some kind of interaction other then walls of text or tiny texts across the top corner of the screen are much more immersive then someone actually speaking to you. Actually developing a concern or hate for other characters or factions would definitely hurt the gameplay.

Relax, you realize I'm just having fun with you all now right? Cheers! Have a great weekend Commanders.

Dude, you would be really surprised to learn, how much of us are waiting for the "Iron Man" mode.

Some of us simply dont enjoy the "Welcome idiots!" design of modern gaming industry. We find joy in challenges and achieving hardcore goals, which other weak minded fools can only think about as a joke...

There is a difference between a game being hard, and a game that doesn't tell you the rules.

If you sat down with your family to play a new board game, but you find out the rule book is missing, you wouldn't say "Finally, a game that is hardcore and doesn't try to hold you hand."

Sounds pretty solid idea to me ... XD

Agreed. I fly commercial planes in x-plane and you have to all those things. Go through preflight, set nav computer, start engines, taxi, take off, maintain course, land, taxi, post flight, shut down. The preflight, nave comp setup, and engine start sequence can take 30 min.

Im a gamer for more than 20 years. The BEST part of most games was about learning rules and mechanics of the game. After you know everything, a game starts to be boring...

Dont get me wrong, we need devs to reveal some mechanics and definitions. Still, whinning of weak minded easy path lovers makes me sick.

Only if the ship's computer screams 'AUBERGINE' when you pull into a tight turn, best game feature ever.

OP - get over it.

If you pull more than 5 G in your Cobra, the bottom hardpoints gets ripped away :D

Also, your shield generator needs to be preheated, but if it runs out of coolant or if the power cable gets bumped around, the shields go offline.

Personally I'm looking forward to taking a future electronics course, so that when we have walking in ships and my power distributor or sensors get shot out I can open up a maintenance hatch, crawl through a ductway and spend several hours fiddling with virtual wires and circuit boards to get my ship operational again.

I actually like most of those ideas. Except perhaps the bit about dying... as you don't die in this game, your ship simply blows up and your escape pod takes you to a nearby station while your insurance company buys you a new ship. Other than that, I like your ideas - despite the intended sarcasm!

I like the idea of DCS Cobra MKIII

Dont like DCS and their love of Starforce DRM
Hence I have a blackshark game disk that is nothing more than a coaster now as I have run out of activations.
I asked DCS for more activations and was told by DCS... Buy another.

No thanks.

Wow, and I thought I would get flamed! Maybe the Devs will agree one day
I still want a 3 inch manual to hold and love.
