Too strict landing position.

The landing position is unrealistically small.
Sometimes you need to position yourself centimeters closer to the cross to register a landing.

This is not like in reality where you have to position yourself within the bounds reserved for you, irrelevant of micro-positioning. Sometimes even irrelevant to heading. Even more since docks in E:D manage rotating the whole ship accordingly (if the pad can be fully rotated, why ask the pilot for a very specific heading?)...

BTW, large poles right next to dock. Bad idea. Bad idea in the game, bad idea in reality.
Really in 3300 they jump between star systems, but can't figure out surface lighting for the docks?
 
The docking computer manages to put your ship in the right place 99.99% of the time and according to many; it is useless.

Next time you land; get out of your ship and have a look at just how big the 'cross' really is.
 
I think pads have no reason to rotate. FD missed the simple logic of 6DOF flight and the dangers and added cost/complexity of having a rotating pad that hurls pilot and passenger(s) around at frightening speed. That and the blast shield they put up, but don't have one to protect the buildings on the pad itself was interesting design work.

However, I disagree about landing being too difficult/picky. I've occasionally had to do a couple of seconds of adjustment to land. But it is super easy compared to lining up a docking ring on the space station or docking a boat in windy conditions. And once the magnets grab the landing gear they align the ship automatically.

The stations are rotating but the ship automagically compensates for that, or landings in stations would be even harder!
 
What irks me are the large pads at the front of the station, surely if you are piloting a large ship then the large pads should be at the rear to give you more maneuvering room.
