Took a Shuttle to Jameson Memorial... How do I use my ships?`

Long story short, I took a shuttle to Jameson Memorial because I didn't want to go back to a particular planet to reclaim my ship.

Now, I'm on foot in the terminal and can't go to the hangar because there's no ship docked.

I've got seven or so ships here. Can I select a ship to use, or am I going to have to haul my ass back to that other world?

Looks like the only option is to transfer my ship here and wait 30 minutes. (sigh)

There's no option to use ONE OF THE SHIPS THAT IS ALREADY SITTING HERE THAT I ALREADY OWN. That makes zero sense.

Check that... there is an option to use one of my ships... but ONLY after I agree to have them transfer the other ship... and lose all the cargo.

Again, not a whole lot of sense there.

Apparently you can only have one active ship.
And that ship was left abandoned on/above a certain planet 🤷‍♂️

I don't think that's the problem here? If a ship is abandoned on a planet, it goes into orbit and can't be recalled to a shipyard. You have to physically visit the planet and recall your ship there. It sounds like OP left the ship docked somewhere with cargo on board, which forces that ship to remain the active one.

OP, just FYI, if you did not have cargo on that ship and the ship was docked not abandoned, Inter Astra would allow you to simply switch to one of your ships docked there.

This is one of the few clues to why we cant sit and exit the ships etc yet. The game engine, as far as I can tell, is still based around the ship, since, for the most part, ED has always been a "Im a spaceship* game. So, even though you can shuttle around, frontline down to foot missions etc, you're still 'tied' to the ship you were last in. Im not exactly sure why or if thats the reason we cant sit in chairs or EVA but to me it seems to be all in the same vane.

I recently saw a youtube showing FC interiors and a command chair, or some chair, we can sit in. Is that a thing for real?

I could see them changing this eventually, meaning we could EVA, board ships, etc. All in the mechanics.

This is exactly the reason.

When you are walking on planet, you are really just a projection of you still in your ship, because that's how the game stores information about you. Same with the SRV.

You are not a character avatar, you are the ship.

I don't know if they'll ever change it as it seems to be a core part of how the game engine works..

Yes, I think it's all related to the core design of the game, it's why what we got in EDO was logical even if people were disappointed there's no freedom to run about as a group in a ship. That would require a rewrite I think.

Log out of Odessey and log in to Horizons and take the screen prompt to go in to orbit.
Travel to shin and then log out of Horizons and back in to Odessey!

I have this hope/idea, in mind, that EDO has taken Cobra to its limits, but as part of a larger plan to develop, naturally, the next engine. And that would lead to either ED 2 or another massive DLC which then has EVA, seats (funny how often I look at the benches, just to take a load off) and atmo planets, etc. with, somehow, the ability to generate animals etc, ala Planet Zoo, and tourist stuff ala Planet Coaster and beginnings of life on some remote planets, ala JWE. I think all those run in a variation of the current engine, too. Anyways, we'll see how that pans out.
