Tools to create, propose paint job for ships ?

Many games like Counter Strike allows the community the create their own skins that can be then voted, sold by the company.

It could be added to Elite Dangerous. Provide ship skins image template that can be used in paint tools. People will paint them and then with the software you provide they can see how their skins would look like in the ship.

Their creation can then be posted in this forum and voted.

The creator of the skin receive the skin for free and/or a % on the sales and FDev part or all the profits on the sale of the skins.

It would adds a lot of variety to paint job offered in the games.

If FD put some dev time in to remastering their "livery editor", which from what I've read, is actually really complicated (hence not many patterns), they could then sell the editor to the public as a DLC.
Then we can make our own colours and patterns.
Same could be done for decals.

Then FD can make money from the editor, and we can get unlimited potential on ship colours.

Of course, the kind of overhaul I'm talking about is basically rebuilding how ships are painted from the ground up, so yeah... It's not likely to happen. Lol

The idea would be more to provide this tools for free so people can propose their work to FDev for them to sell.

Allowing people to "freely" design their ship the way they want will never happens :
- Because of copyright issues.
- Because of sexual, racist ... issues

Imagine someone creating a ship with swastika on their ship or a coca cola logo... FDev would deal with a lot of problem because of that.

But people could propose their work in the forum for people to vote it would be great.

People are creative to create skins and it could simplify FDev job. See how productive people are at creating weapons skins in Counter Strike.

In exchange the creator would receive their skins for free and possibly others goodies, % or whatever.

For now paint job creativity is really limited because the community is not involve in the process of creation.
