Toothless Diamonback

Commanders, I'm in need of some assistance. I purchased a Diamonback Explorer and set it up as follows: 4A power plant, 4A thrusters, 4B power distributor, 3F Pulse Laser (Turret mount with signature tracking) and a pair of 2D Fragment cannons (Gimbel with signature tracking). Problem is that the Pulse Laser will not fire. Yes, I am in Combat Mode; Yes, my hardpoints are deployed; Yes, the Pulse Laser is set up as my primary fire button in a Fire Group, with the Frag cannons as the secondary fire button; and Yes, the Frag cannons fire, but the Pulse Laser refuses to fire. I had a similar problem when I originally configured the ship with two Rail Guns instead of the Frag cannons (rail guns never fired, as evidenced by no visual confirmation and by no reduction in ammo). I don't want to keep throwing money at this pig, hoping that I'll get something to actually fire (except for the Frag guns, which have a painfully long reload time, especially if it's the ONLY weapon you have because the darn laser won't fire!!) I have 15.6MW max power, and am only using 13.05MW fully deployed, so I can't believe that I'm without power and I'm running with 4 Pips on weapons, one on System and one on Engine.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I'm currently on my way to Sol and picked up the D-Back at Dunbar Hub in system 157 G. Aquarii.

Edit: Ofc that does not explain the rails, as there are no turret rails...
Edit2: Re-rails - you do know that they take time to change, so you have to keep the button pressed until they fire?

That sounds really odd. Could you have accidentally turned off the power to your weapon modules in the module screen? Check that first and if not, map all your weapons to fire on the secondary. If that works whatever you've mapped for the primary isn't working. Bad key or joystick button.
 
Once upon a time I had issues with my weapons not wanting to fire. I tried and tried various things including restarting the game as well as restarting my pc. At some point just before throwing it thru the window. I realized that I had NO pips to weapons. DUH!
 
Zannry, thanks for the suggestions, but the power was on and it didn't matter which trigger I had it on (both triggers work for the frag cannon).
It looks like Factabulous had the answer! I had the Turret Weapon Mode on "Fire at will"... apparently, Will wasn't around, so no fire! I set it to Forward Fire (which is the default, I believe, but I must have changed it somewhere along the line! Operator Error, as usual!)

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions! Now I just have to find a better kinetic weapon, because although the Frag Cannon does some damage, it's just too darn SLOOOW!

It's a gun! You pull the trigger, it goes BANG! That's how it's supposed to work, anyway...
Guess maybe I'll give them another shot and see, but it sounds like another "slow refire rate", like the frag guns...
I had a Cobra MKIII and I thought I had a "machine gun" on that with like 10000 rounds... low damage but you could shoot for days!
Any idea what that might have been called? I don't see it at the station I'm at right now (Patsayev, IL Aquarii), but that doesn't surprise me, as equipment varies by port.

Lots of the guns (and scanners) require different firing styles - not ideal to find once you are in combat ;)

True, true, but even an "Explorer" needs fight their way out of a situation, from time to time... 8^)
(plus, it seems a shame to leave that big weapon bay empty...)

It is considerably quicker and faster not to mention safer, to either low or high wake. Then it is to screw around for a fist full of cr's, IF you win.
 
the Frag Cannon does some damage, it's just too darn SLOOOW!
You need to use frags correctly. They actually have the highest DPS in the game; they just have a limited range and a sharp damage fall-off. Get right up in your opponent's face (within 500m) and unload a clip.

They're my favourite weapon in the game.
