Proposal Discussion Top 10 Upcoming Space Sims

Nice writeup - a couple of titles I've not heard about before. Definitely agree with his selection for the top 3 * - ED, SC & LT - although I don't know that I would rank them, they're all "No 1" for me :)

* my bad - he actually had X:Rebirth as no.3 and Limit Theory as no.4 - based on preview material of X:Rebirth. I wonder if he's changed his mind since?

Same here! The only one I know not to buy is X rebirth, which is a disgraceful attempt to cobble together a failed console endeavour for the PC.

1) Elite Dangerous
2) Elite Dangerous Planetary Landings
3) Elite Dangerous EVA
4) Star Citizen ....full release version in 2017
5-10) I don't care

:D

Rodina's interesting but I'm not sure about it yet. The way it becomes so arcade-like when you're not inside your ship jars me a little. Definitely feel strongly about Elite and Star Citizen they're at the top of my list. X-Rebirth was a /horrible/ disappointment, though. I was hoping it would be something to hold my interest until Elite and then SC, but, it was just so clunky and just...well...bad...IMO.

For AAA titles there really is only two:

1. Elite Dangerous.
2. Star Citizen.

Not sure anything else comes close, and I am being strict in my Space Sim criteria, first and foremost it must be first person with a 3D cockpit which is not fixed. That discounts X: Rebirth.

No Man's Sky perhaps, personally I don't like the art work too much and I am concerned about the draw distances on the planet, the video showed a lot of fogging in the distance. Infinity while looking good just needs to show more "life". As is commonly mentioned we need more than pretty landscapes, but rather need something to do. Both these are small indie projects and will do well to hold their own.

I grew up on elite and freespace series, but x2 and X3 series has been my bread and butter for years, egosoft and the modding community made one of the best space sims of all time imo, i was extremely bummed out at rebirth.... abandoned their loyal community for consoles... then failed at doing so, released the mess to the excited masses then had the balls to say it was a success... only to vanish into the night...or day... idk which one but they vanished either way. lol

buy anyways long story short if you havent played the x3 series (especially terren conflict) its definitly in my opinion worth checking out. :D

Definitely only a fan of the first 2 games. The rest as StarTux said are not AAA titles. Hence the amount of work going into them is but a fraction of what we will see for both SC and ED.

However I am open-minded to what Infinity can do. I am imagining a very preliminary open world War Thunder type skirmish game until they flesh out the other parts and build upon the engine. This depends immensely on what Flavien Brebion can muster with his 2014 kickstarter. If its got no real funding then I will wait for a Freespace 3 kickstarter or just enjoy the top 2 on that list and its expansions. That is all. :D
