Top Places To Visit In Elite

Hey everyone,

With Fleet Carriers delayed, I'm looking to go on a little journey to visit the top sites in Elite, and I'd like your help figuring out what those would be?

I know Alec has put together an excellent "list of lists" here, but there are so many different lists it's hard to know where to start?

So that's why I'm here - to get your thoughts on what some of the coolest places to visit in Elite are?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Of course there is Sag A*, which is kind of a must see, but it's quite a journey.

A few other to consider:

- The Crab Nebula.

- Go up and see the galaxy disc from above.

- NGC 7822.

- The Horsehead Nebula! (go via Rigel)

Those are all within reach without too much patience.

Recently I have been looking for neutron stars and black holes just outside the Bub. Those are quite spectacular when you get to the exclusion zone. With both you need to approach somewhat carefully, but you won't die even if you smash into them in SC. The gravitational lensing of even smaller black holes is very strong at the exclusion zone, and the light of a neutron star is blinding from a distance of a few hundred km. White dwarfs are more "dangerous", but even with those you can scrape the canopy against the exclusion zone without taking any damage if you are careful.

So, I went to the extremes of the galaxy, all the generation ships, the INRA bases, now I'm going to every region in the galaxy.

There's so much to see, but the EDSM Galactic Map is good - turn certain POI's on/off.

Visit a Glowing Green Giant. There aren't very many of them; you can find a few of them listed in the Codex (they have a separate entry "Green Giant" under each gas giant type). There's one not too far from the Bubble, with the "Radioactive Green" tourist Beacon, but there are more spectacular-looking ones in:
- Bleia Dryiae HF-W b35-1
- Nyeajaae IT-M c9-19

You can see this thread for a more complete listing.

I must agree w Sapyx, some of the GGG’s are among the most beautiful bodies in the galaxy, and extremely rare. Perhaps the only rarer bodies (that I know of) are terraformable metal rich worlds, but those aren’t all that interesting to look at.
They're not bodies per se, but Lagrange storm clouds can be roughly as rare, and they're also pretty to look at.

Just thought of another set of places that really is well worth visiting ... the INRA bases.

Probably some of the best and most atmospheric story telling in the game.

I'd recommend visiting the bases in the following order:

  • INRA base #1 "Hollis Gateway" - Hermitage 4A (lat: -53.75, lon: 157.61)
  • INRA base #2 "Stuart Retreat" - HIP 15329 A 3 C (lat: -62.61, lon: -44.26)
  • INRA base #3 "Klatt Enterprises" - ALNATH A 2 A A (lat: 4.0186, lon: 133.5426)
  • INRA base #4 "Mayes Chemical Plant" - HIP 59382 1 B (lat: 11.41, lon: 177.06)
  • INRA base #5 "Hogan Depot" - HIP 7158 A 2 B (lat: -44.63, lon: -63.78)
  • INRA base #6 "Velasquez Medical Research Center" - LP 389-95 7 (lat: 57.96, lon: 50.03)
  • INRA base #7 "Almeida landing" - Conn A 3 A (lat: 73.38, lon: 102.37)
  • INRA base #8 "Carmichael Point" - HIP 16824 A 2 F (lat: 73.87, lon: 61.87)
  • INRA base #9 "Stack" - HIP 12099 1 A (lat: -72.62, lon: -67.52)
  • INRA base #10 "Taylor Keep" - 12 Trianguli Planet 1 A (lat: -51.57, lon: 130.6)

And then finish with Jameson's crashed Cobra.

  • COBRA JJ-386 - HIP 12099 1 B (lat: -54.36, lon: -50.36)

I have to agree. I had not touched on Thargoid Lore or Thargoid aspect of the game, and think this is a great starting piont. So I decided to give it a go a few days back. It is a great adventure esp. if you Role Play it then story line becomes very immersive. When I finally returned to the jameson crash site and landed, It gave me a eery feeling that I had not felt on the numerous times visiting the site. Now to me the Jemeson Site will never be just a material gathering site.
The most enjoyable journey yet in Elite. As said the story telling is first class.
My next adventure will the follow the Generation Ship story line.

Yeah, do Gen Ships, they're easy. Head to the Zurara as well if you want to. Don't forget about Cete either.

Then go do the INRA bases, then JJ Cobra, then the Bug Killer with the SRV. If you're lucky you'll get a Thargoid interaction at the Bug Killer :)

Great idea, I've been to a few of them awhile back.
