Newcomer / Intro Torpedo Pylon in a Sidewinder not displaying Secondary Weapon?

I bought a Torpedo Pylon, noticed that it did not show up in my secondary weapon, when I opened my hardpoints. I then went back to the station to buy a torpedo for $15 K. It still did not display under secondary weapons. I'm not sure why? I sold it because it seems like a rich man's toy but I'd still like to know what I did wrong?

Is it due to power constraints or... ?

what do i need to ensure i have before i purchase a weapon on my side winder?

Yeah, bring up the right-hand systems panel, and there are a bunch of options for configuring your ship. Firing groups are in columns, different weapons and devices are in rows.

If you haven't done it yet, assign your basic discovery scanner to a firing group (set it to an orange 1), switch to that firing group (default key to cycle is 'n') and hold down the trigger next time you're in an unknown system.
