Torpedoes in the water

Anyone a fan of torpedoes? I stuck a pair of C2 pylons on my new python for lolz (didn't have enough for decent guns). And of course I immediately got interdicted by an Imperial clipper while carrying a hold full of palladium and an undersized shield. Argh!

So we went head to head, I popped chaff, swallowed a shield cell and launched twin torps at short range to avoid point defence. I think it's shields were wiped out in one go. We turned and I boosted forward to give it the other pair. Boom! clipper looks like an iPhone that has been lying on a highway for two weeks and my undersized shield is still three rings.

60,000 credits but highly entertaining.

I used them on my Type 9. Two torp launchers and the remaining hardpoints as seeker missile launchers. I saved the torps for any larger ships that interdicted me and they worked pretty well. I was annoyed though when a Python that interdicted me managed to get away with 1% hull because he did a Brave Sir Robin

Yes, they are deadly. I use them as a nuclear deterrent :) Best to have them, just in case... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=101462

I've used Torpedoes on my Viper quite sucessfully for hunting down NPC Dropships, Pythons, and Anacondas.
I'd expect players to have ECM fitted making torpedoes much harder to use effectively (i.e. point blank only), but they're still well worth the ammo cost :)

Oh yes... My Python had triple torp launchers for a while, they were great fun :D Complete overkill for pretty much anything.

Interdicted by a Dangerous NPC Viper, FA off and turn to face, the first set of three stripped the shields and took it down to 36% hull, the second set had predictable effect. Sadly the reload cost was 3x the bounty, but it was worth it!

I bounty hunt in an asp with a pair of small beams and a pair of medium Multis, I can keep up a continuous stream of fire with them and take down anything I meet, that leaves a pair of small mounts which I keep loaded with torps and every now and then when I have an anaconda down to about 30% I pull away and line them up calling out "Torpedo loss!" as I launch each one and watch them cruise through all his point defence tracers to slam into his hull. Which is something I have been wondering about, I have tried seeker missiles and against a target with decent point defence most of them don't make it, but the torpedos seem to always survive....maybe they are made of the same stuff as black boxes.

I am just waiting to find a wanted Lakon type 9 to try them on, I think they are going to be useful if we ever come up against capital ships, I can see players making torpedo runs in vipers.
