Total War:Warhammer

I didn't really know about Warhammer or the total war Games, however I just gave it a try and really love it.

There are a lot to understand, the battles are wonderful, but also very difficult in my opinion, you really need to know what you're doing :D

I also like that it's divided into a base turned and a RTS, where the former are the overall game world interaction and the latter the battles you encounter.

If there are any Total War veterans here, please point to links where you can learn more, as i'm totally lost regarding many of the game mechanics.

However if you're new t this, and like strategic games, you should give this one a try. I've had a lot of issues with the game freezing and CTD so my Steam review was/is not recommended. Many times the games just stop working or CTD.

It seams that most people don't have these issues, so need to see if they fix it soon. I do manage to get the game going, and when it works it's really fun.

Really surprised there are gamers out there that never heard of Total War o_O It is a strategy game, so it immediately puts it into not the most popular market niche. But it's one of the biggest names in a genre. Can't help you with links or much info, last TW I've played was Medieval 2 :) BTW, it was fantastic. Give it a shot.

Well, I played a very few game,s mostly Arma and DCS/FSX, so that was where I spend my time. However now I'm trying to expand my game experience a bit :)

I actually credit the Total War series (Medieval and Rome, specifically) with getting me back into gaming after a lengthy break about 15 years ago. Despite flaws in some recent entries, it's a magnificent game series. The real-time, full scale battles set it apart from anything else.

Total War is incredible, and Warhammer tops all of them for me.

It is a very deep game though with a bit of a learning curve, even for Total War vets. One trouble I have with it is that if I stop playing for long periods of time and then get back to it and load an old campaign then I'm completely lost. I'm not sure where I was going with it, or how to do certain things anymore.

And not a big fan of the corruption mechanic.

I love this new DLC...buuuuut it's very hard for a new play I can tell you that.

I don't visit this sub-forum very often so this is way late but there are some excellent TW:W tutorials on YouTube.

Try PartyElite: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg3BiSs8eBE9hA9EWYTgtAg
And Zerkovich: https://www.youtube.com/user/ZerkovichVsThePeople

Also just watching Let's Plays is a pretty good way to learn. I like Lionheartx10 and HeirofCarthage but there are plenty of others.

It's not too hard to learn really. The key is matching up your units to opponents that are weak against them. Just remember as a general rule cav beats ranged, spears beat cav, swords beat spears and ranged beat swords. And ofc pay attention to unit abilities. Send armour peircing units against armour and anti-large ones after monsters and so on.

Oh and you can double click a spell to overcast it. :)

Actually i have played with almost all warhammer PC games, read a lots of books, and when i was my Teen days in the 90's and played Tabletop RPGS also bought a dozens of WH lead soldiers, and painted them, nicely for the RPG modules. Still have some of it lying around just don't ask me where?

And YES! WH and WH40K games are cool! Bood blow? Now, that's something entirely else! :D
Look after it if you never heard about. :p

Not played warhammer, i think it goes against my idea of total war games, i play rome 2, but i'm really hoping for medieval 3 or Empire 2.

CA have said the next historical game will not be a 3 (so not Medieval, Shogun or Rome) and it will be an era they've not done before. A lot of people are hoping for something like Total War: Victoria, IE basically Empire 2.

Warhammer is great unless you really don't care for fantasy. The campaign play is simplified, you don't have to deal with food or squalor and so on, but the battles are awesome. The pace is faster and there's more unit variety. There's a level of scope and ambition to the whole project that seems to have been missing for a while. The idea of doing three interlocking games that basically cover the whole Warhammer world, and trying to make every faction have a unique playstyle seems to have really excited them, and from what I've read in interviews it seems to have filtered back to the historical team too. Apparently they're really excited for some of the stuff they're designing for the next historical game.

I'm a bit of a weird one when it comes to sci fi and fantasy, i love sci fi obviously, but not fantasy (other than space related or horror) so things like Lord of the rings and warhammer and dota just don't get me going. I have no dooubt that the warhammer gameplay is top quality, and i hope it continues to improve with the next historical release, as Willfrog suggests.

I don't mind fantasy at all, but I would much prefer this game to be in Warhammer 40k setting. I have hopes that maybe after their next historical game, they can make Total War Warhammer 40k since they showed they can use the license effectively. Not that it matters - sadly Warhammer license was sold to all kinds of questionable studios, hence why there's so many bad Warhammer games.

I love the Warhammer setting, though never did the models or anything.

I love Total War games, having played Rome 1 & 2, Shogun 1 & 2 to death.

I just can't get on with Total War: Warhammer :\ I've bought it twice from Steam and refunded it within 2 hours. I want to love it but I just can't for some reason.

Imortal Empires map is coming for Beta testing next week, in Total War: Warhammer 3.

Massive map.

And the only game i know where buying 2 other games and DLC from the first two games actually matters.

How it all works?
You need to own all 3 games ON the same games platform (like Steam) in order to unlock the Immortal Empires Map. They do not need to be installed, just owned.

Other DLC adds different races, or adds more Lords/Factions to existing races.

Meh, I'm not such a Chaos fanboy. WH III's heavy focus on Chaos made me abstain from it. I played TW:WH II religiously. It's one of the best games I ever played. I mean the sieges are kinda bad for TW but you simply can't have everything. In WH II you only had Chaos stuff cropping up by corruption. I'm totally not keen on having constant Chaos stuff in my core lands because of some rando dice roll. I prefer a slow campaign with role-play potential. I want crafted characters with an agenda and motives I can believe in. Like Queen Khalida.

I see. I am very new to the TW Warhammer franchise. Just 40 hours in Wh2, and 140 in Wh3, picked it up last year when i saw: .
So i am very in to fighting Deamons and other pests.
Did they adressed some of that problems you had with Chaos in this article from few weeks ago:
or is it the Roleplay stuff they discuss there?

I'm away on hols for the drop and then more or less away on business until mid-September.

On the bright side though, they'll have patched any day 1 madness, and it is a beta after all.

Druchii for ever!
