Totally lost newb, can not get out of a station to get started in docking tutorial

So I can not for the life of me figure out what I am supposed to do to allow me to use the UI in station. I played the tutorials that start you in space but the docking computer wants me to choose something from that center menu and no key I press seems to work. I am keyboard/mouse should be default settings.

I looks like I am maybe supposed to hold shift and then maybe wasd or shift then wasd but I am totally stuck. Searched for a while on the forums, watched videos, downloaded this huge help pdf but nothing explains this first step so I really don't understand what to do next.

A helpful additional step in the first tutorial would tell me exactly what to press so I can even launch the ship.

Am I the only person to not be able to figure this out? Feeling dumb...

Keybindings got nuked in gamma2, dunno if that is relevant in your case.

But ye, go fiddle w the controls.

Forward/back thruster keys are used to navigate up/down etc.

Sorry dont have time to write more detailed help.

Use your keyboard Space key to click the main station menu, and then you can use the mouse to click the other elements.

You cannot use the mouse to click any of the buttons on the main station menu.

Main station menu is the one with the 3 options: (main menu?), (enter hangar?), (launch?)

Press P in game to get the Pause menu, from there you should be able to use your mouse to select Options.
You need to set up your thrusters in order to lift off the the pad ( vertical, sideways, forwards and back). You may also need to check your landing gear, engine boost, and jump keys. As I remember it, the pre flight checks go through all this before you can take off, so maybe you need to do this first? The default key for each control should be indicated on the checklist. Press and hold each one till it changes the indicator light next to it.

Scorch, I agree with you. I'm a noob like you, using a keyboard till my Saitek x52 arrives, and I'm finding the Help a little less than helpful for a raw recruit.
I think they need a page to explain how the controls work from the point of view of a beginner. Its all well and good to say what each key does but we need something before that to get noobs on their way. Sorry I can't help. I've just been sitting in my hanger moving the screen about pretty helplessly.
Perhaps a vid showing a noob the content of the tut from the beginning would be helpful. Perhaps one of the other more experienced commanders could do that if they haven't already. I'll take a look on YouTube.

However, I love the graphics :)

Are you trying to launch?

hit 3. you can then use the W and S key to navigate the menu, starport services, Enter Hanger, Launch. when Launch is highlighted hit enter key, that is your select key.

R is vertically up, F is vertically down.
W is forward, S is back
Q and E side to side, A and D turn left and right.

So, you lift vertically to get off the pad with R.

Press L which retracts your landing gear

Go forward when you are aligned with slit (mouse side to side and up and down controls roll and "thingy" up down thing)

Dont go too fast until you are out

That is standard launch procedure. Take some getting used to.

BEST advice I can give you is to study the key bindings menu under controls in options. It will give you a lot if clues. I remember first starting out and it was hard with little instruction. After reading that it helped me heaps. Most people take it for granted now because they are used to it. But I remember.

Good luck, and keep trying, its worth it !!

I agree the tutorials aren't very intuitive, i hope you work it out as I did, eventually...

My suggestion to the dev team is to have any objectives not disappear from the ui until they have been completed, also have the ui point out exactly on the ui or dashboard what is you want us do and with what button(s).

Thanks for the help. It would seem nothing was bound. So I went through and had to re-setup the controls. Even just a "Reset Controls" option would have been a life saver here. Now I have at least been able to leave the launch pad, and now I just spin around in the station but at least progress.

Why nobody use PRE FLIGHT CHECKS ON.......there you must before start press all important Keys for flight.
If you do that for the first 10-20 Starts I am sure have learn the important keys, and THAN turn PreFlightChecks off....

could be like what happened to some of us, where all of your bindings got remapped to nowhere, if pushing 1,2,3,4,w,a,s,d doesn't work you need to remap the keys

hit ESC -> options -> controls

then follow Roonix's link and set everything up again
