Really would like the Left and right holo screens to be available on some kind of touch screen. Replies here, much as I expected, but I will keep coming back to the forums from time to time to see if any progress has been made. Saw an early thread some where pointing out that David Braben was both CEO of Frontier AND co-founder of Raspberry Pi. I would be happy to help develop (or just fund) a PI touchscreen solution, however as someone says above, If there is no co-operation from Frontier regarding the code (or an API) then any such project is going no where.
I was considering using the existing software available with an Android screen. However like voice command it requires the ED menus to be in a specific state before (and therefore after) an action is completed. This results in an either / or for joystick/throttle buttons and touchscreen. I read somewhere that Frontier made a conscious decision NOT to add a "home/reset" function to the menus specifically so that macros could NOT be used. I appreciate that it could give someone with plenty of time and money the ability to get a significant technical advantage over someone with a basic keyboard and or HOTAS, HOWEVER: it also makes the game very hard to play for someone that has limited dexterity. The guy that wrote the most popular voice control configurations did so with the help of his severely disabled wife, who can now play as a trader because of that software (Combat is really not viable, but apparently she does not care)
ALSO:
Regardless of being able to use a touchscreen on them: Am I the only one that would really like to see the Galaxy Map and System Map on separate monitor(s)? Sadly this would probably require a major rewrite and so is unlikely to happen. It seems bizarre that the data for the system you are in, is only loaded from the server (or drawn on your local PC?) after it is requested. It is so frustrating when you Press "System Map" and then realize that your ship is heading into danger and there is NOTHING you can do about it until the system map finally loads AND you hit BACK.
