Community Event / Creation touch screen idea for a cockpit

OK, first off im so new to this game i don't even own it yet lol. but i know ill love to play this game and i am going to build a cockpit and im just researching idea's right now till i can get my new pc (right now mine cant even play it) and i have this idea for touch screens for the right and left holo menu's i guess there called, you know when you look to the right or left and they pop up, i was wondering if there is anyone who has or knows if it is possible to link those screen's directly to some tablets? this video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcGTCG_xDTQ gave me the idea for it, basically i don't want to have to look in either of those directions in game, ill have them up at all times right next to me on the tablets. also not sure if this was already ask/discussed searched the forums for about twenty or so minutes with no luck.

The closest you're going to get with touchscreen controls is going to be downloading Roccat's Power Grid software onto your PC and tablet (or smartphone). There are several fan-made configurations, and the tools are available to make your own. They're pretty neat, and add a bit more immersion than a keyboard.
As far as what you're requesting goes, I don't think it exists. Someone would have to make an entire app from the ground up and integrate it... somehow... with the Elite interface. I'm no coder, but the Roccat setup is essentially a very fancy set of key bindings, which is total cake compared to what you're looking for.

Here's the link for the Roccat setup:http://www.roccat.org/en-US/Products/Gaming-Software/Power-Grid/Download/

Enjoy, and fly safe!

(I am a developer) I have tried to contact the Devs for a way to interact with the game, so that we could build application and tools to assist in flight; An example would be an external display for navigation data, or a speed indicator. I haven't had any response.

Yeah I looked into it as well months ago, there is no way to get that data or alot of data for that matter.
If more of the code was locally stored [like in the 80's] we might be able to tap into it and extract variables and/or fields.

I have been poking at the current game .DLLs in the folders but nothing useful there yet.

ED will have to open the code up for us to do multiscreen menus like this.
I doubt the first API 1.0 will allow us to off load screen data in that fashion.

I would like the same as well, two lcd touch screens L & R dedicated to those two menus.

My current idea for it is I will take screen shots of the menus and re-build the graphics by hand then display those on my two screens.

Not so much animated but a popup-drill down that I can see and touch the screen for certain tabbed items, using just the KB macro approch.

I'll try to get a demo going on my current panels I am doing.

dam, i was kinda hoping to hear that its already been done lol.

So was I. I just had this thought today, and thought I'd search the forums for it. I really think it's something Frontier should allow a developer to look into creating for the game. I have all sorts of ideas for the design of the companion app that would connect to whatever software there would need to be on the computer to read the data from the game while you're playing and allow the app to interact directly with the controls in the game.

Here ya go sharpie...

sorry haven't been on in awhile but it looks really good!

No worries, it was a quick deal took me like 10 minutes from start to finish.
This will go no where until ED provides an API or some hook to file data on the local side.

It doesn't even make since to try or even build a shell hoping maybe someday they will provide something.
When they do I'll revisit the idea of populating screens with live data streams. [maybe]

Until then we can dream a little...

ya, im going to "try" and talk to a Dev and see if i can get any info. more than likely they wont even respond but ill just keep asking and spamming till they crack lol. i really cant wait to start building this thing, literally right now i have a notebook in front of me and im planning out how my button layouts are going to be. i even have this crazy idea of having like a swing arm that is going to hang down off to my side that will have light, landing gear, etc on it so i can pull it down in front of me to control that stuff and then just swing it out of my way when i don't need it.

Hate to be the one but, you'll get no where I am sure and it is a madman's adventure your ship is charting. ;)

There is no way to read data if its not provided.

There is some however but it's all app based and would need to be ported over to PC, but it too is limited data wise.

This is already possible.

Really would like the Left and right holo screens to be available on some kind of touch screen. Replies here, much as I expected, but I will keep coming back to the forums from time to time to see if any progress has been made. Saw an early thread some where pointing out that David Braben was both CEO of Frontier AND co-founder of Raspberry Pi. I would be happy to help develop (or just fund) a PI touchscreen solution, however as someone says above, If there is no co-operation from Frontier regarding the code (or an API) then any such project is going no where.

I was considering using the existing software available with an Android screen. However like voice command it requires the ED menus to be in a specific state before (and therefore after) an action is completed. This results in an either / or for joystick/throttle buttons and touchscreen. I read somewhere that Frontier made a conscious decision NOT to add a "home/reset" function to the menus specifically so that macros could NOT be used. I appreciate that it could give someone with plenty of time and money the ability to get a significant technical advantage over someone with a basic keyboard and or HOTAS, HOWEVER: it also makes the game very hard to play for someone that has limited dexterity. The guy that wrote the most popular voice control configurations did so with the help of his severely disabled wife, who can now play as a trader because of that software (Combat is really not viable, but apparently she does not care)

ALSO:
Regardless of being able to use a touchscreen on them: Am I the only one that would really like to see the Galaxy Map and System Map on separate monitor(s)? Sadly this would probably require a major rewrite and so is unlikely to happen. It seems bizarre that the data for the system you are in, is only loaded from the server (or drawn on your local PC?) after it is requested. It is so frustrating when you Press "System Map" and then realize that your ship is heading into danger and there is NOTHING you can do about it until the system map finally loads AND you hit BACK.

Yes, absolutely.

One can "do" something about that, don't put yourself in the situation where you can't go to Galaxy map without worry. [obviously] ;)

I'd already have dual screens [L/R holo's- target-system etc] working if there was a hook or API for it, there isn't.

We will not see this anytime soon and that probably is the fact-jack.
Not trying to be rude or a downer but it is reality.

Our API calls fall on deaf ears. Or at least muted background noise, kind of like static.

Well it is a large universe, so they are probably too far away to even hear us mumble. Secondly, there's little money to be made from these additions, until they understand the power of it in VR (tactile feedback etc.)

1. System Map: Good advice, hope you remember it the next time you press "S" microseconds after a new threat appears.

2. API: Whether you are an optimist or a pessimist, the outcome remains the same. However the optimist has a better time getting there and the pessimist is seldom disappointed.

Have fun out there Battlegrade and thank you for your post :)
