I'd like to see Systems/factions/etc host space races when the entrants have to fly a course that could see them have to weave in and out of asteroids, enter and exit SC, etc, etc all across a solar system.
To keep it fair then there can be different mass classes of racing (all Cobra's for instance). It is then up to you to fit your ship out accordingly and fly your ship the best route.
Winner gets credits/permits/whatever as well as perhaps a ship decal or something.
