TPCAST announces Wireless Adapter for Rift - due Q4 2017

Annoying yes.
The tpcast battery pack on the other hand is reported to be literally painful.
from :https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/tpcast-vive-wireless-adapter-first-take-ces-2017/

The wireless adapter connects to large battery pack, which has to be stored in a pocket on your person. Stored in the back pocket of our jeans, the XL battery, which gets up to five hours of battery life, heated to an uncomfortable temperature very quickly.

When it was announced, we bemoaned the fact that the standard TPCast adapter would only allow for up to 90 minutes of gameplay. After using it, it seems unlikely that you would want to use it for more than 15 minutes. The final version of the standard battery may not get quite so hot, mind you, but there’s a real chance that the adapter may be very uncomfortable to wear.

I'm not reaching for my MasterCard just yet.

I didn't know that, thanks Tor.

Well it is an old article so might not be as bad as that.
But it needs a big battery, and when batteries are drained quickly they get hot.

but from what I read on the tech and comments on it.
Nope I'm not giving these guys £300.

Where is the price stated in that article? How much?

On a side note, we are all just going to die of brain cancer soon huh?

Exactly how would radio waves so high in frequency give you brain cancer when they get blocked out buy your hand let alone the inch thick bone your skull, or maybe that's just mine.. Just asking.

I had to go a few pages deep.
first to tpcast's site itself, then found a link there for UK reseller.

Also no price on the rift version but no reason it would be anything less than the vive version that cost a little over £300.

Stick it in a small backpack, that would solve that problem.

350 is a lot for wireless VR, but consider the cost of a laptop capable of the same thing. Also, it's a pretty magical box, and assuming it works and people realise it works, and buy it, the cost can only drop. Maybe Mk II will have a better battery pack with a built in fan and heatsink facing away from the body to reduce battery burn, and this sort of thing could be integrated into tomorrow's VR sets.

yeh well by the looks of it i think i'll wait to see what tomorrow brings

TBF, wireless VR with today's HMD's are not really much use for ED, considering the resolution and static cockpit gameplay. Other game, that involve moving around, and where resolution isn't as important, will benefit greatly from this tech.
