Traces of a wild Deathstar

So I got myself a scanning mission, which said to go to Sterling Relay in the Lopu Maris system.

But wait.. no Sterling Relay in Navigation panel? Strange.. Lets check the system map.

Wait.. WHAT?? No planets here but scattered Asteroids? Looks like this cursed Death star was faster again...

Had one of those last night. Go to each station and outpost then honk your disco scanner. Good idea to honk every 500ls or so. You'll find most of the planets.

Alternatively, you can buy the system info off the galaxy map.

Ok, I have no money issues so no problem getting the scanners, but I didnt know it was possible to scout the station without the planets ?! Even more so because this system is located in a highly populated
area.. (player wise) But ok, thanks a lot for your answers, as of now I will only do any surface mission with planet scanner equiped :]

You might see the orbital stations without planets but you need to discover the planets to find surface bases. There is no guarantee that you will find them without an advanced discovery scanner.

advanced disco scanner is best bet,

this is common, and sometime the data is not available to buy, when doing long range smuggling mission or shadow style mission it is common to get mission for systems that have no data and the only way to find your destination is to scan (this actually applies to any mission for planets now because there are so many new ones added with horizons that that data is not actually present even when you by the data for a system)

several systems I bought data for got there and scanned and still discovered up to 48 other new items in that system.

agreed, some planets could be on a secondary star and be 38 - 68000ls away you'd never find by flying around honking the basic scanner and hoping for the best, one of my undiscovered delivery point last night for a mission was planetside 89000ls from the primary star orbiting a trinary star.
