Tracking a double jump (jump from SC)

I've been meaning to ask.
I was following someone the other day, first from normal space to another system by targeting their wake and following them.
Then from the other system they jumped again leaving behind a high energy FSD wake which from Supercruise I couldn't do anything with.
You could argue that if I was following them as a group I would know where they were going (or when the group mechanic is finished this wont happen)
or if I was trying to kill them I could have interdicted them in the first system,
but I can think of reasons why I would want to follow them to their destination.

Am I doing something wrong or can you not currently (either by design or flaw) follow a jump from Supercruise?

You can't scan high energy wakes in SC. But it doesn't mean you can't figure out where they are going. High energy is a definite system to system jump. If you are following them and they start the power up in prep for a jump, you open nav and start selecting systems, searching for the one that matches their current heading. When you find the one that is aligned with their heading, that's probably the destination they are using. If you are some way behind them and not following them from directly behind, you can wait for the jump, then travel to the wake and align there. Again sift through the nav computer for a destination aligned with the wake. This takes a lot longer though...
