I posted this earlier and received some mixed responses due to the way I had phrased the poll, so I thought I would give it another go.

Below is my original post, and above should be a new multi-choice poll ;)

Please select ONLY 1 of the first 5 options, and any or none of the rest.

I have ignored options for the scan data - as far as I am concerned, if it is implemented in game, then it should be in the scan data, even if it is nowhere else. Although, there may be options to hide data you do not wish to see.

There have been a few discussions about identifying and distinguishing N/PC's.

I am not sure where I sit on this, I quite like the fact the RADAR shows us who is "real" with the hollow markers.

I know there was discussions about whether ships should have to be scanned to give up this information.

either way, one thing has irked me right from the beginning, and that is seeing a name after the initial scan when targeting ship.

I would rather see a ship registration number and have the current commanders name shown in the scan data panel.

I would also like to see the registration painted on the hull.

This would allow for commanders fleeing to change their ship (or possibly get someone to doctor the registration number) so as to try and slip past the pursuer.

An example of what I mean can be seen from previous iterations of Elite, namely FEII and FFE

What do you think?

I do wonder about the purpose and validity of forum members creating their own polls. I can't really take the result too seriously when compared with polls created by Frontier. I think I and many others have missed heaps of player created polls on quite important issues and therefore I don't think the results can be accurately interpreted to gauge the sentiment of the entire playerbase. Sorry to be a pain. ;)

Me it is simple, I want to see everything. The more there is of information and the better it will be. ED must not to be a closed game. He must be opened and turned to the others

Not at all. I totally agree, but OTOH - IF a poll or discussion gets sufficient traction there is always an outside chance that FD may take a bit more notice of it ;)

Anyway, I also think it helps the community understand each other a bit better and in a crowdfunded project such as this, where everyone has their own view (albeit in this case FD are Judge, Jury and Executioner) items like this can help gauge general feeling on an item that may have been overlooked by the devs.

However, there can be of trends that emerge

I personally would like to have the commander name, ship name and type all rotating on the HUD too much info at once just makes the screen a mess (same goes with professional ECDIS systems at sea) but the info rotating one piece at a time would be useful!

I would like to just have

Choice B - Replace commander's name with ship type (i.e. Cobra Mk II) on HUD

As well as this their should be no difference between player /AI radar icons, Then the only time you would know you were killed by another player is on the kill message.

I chose ship's name on HUD - but to be honest I should have chosen the last option .. it makes more sense to be able to "Scroll" through the info

As to the Hull - I went with ship reg & ship name ... I don't think that commanders names should be on the Hull .. I wouldn't write MY name on my car for instance :)

As long as I can have the name of my ship painted on the bow - I will of course name them all things like "The short thrills between the boring bits" and "Total lack of any gravitas whatsoever" to honor the great Iain M Banks' memory.

OK, which Kryton voted for the spacer?

Curiosity got the better of me ;-)

Technically I followed the request "Please select ONLY 1 of the first 5 options, and any or none of the rest".

But I did vote sensibly within the other options. A and C FWIW.

Unless you are a rally racer.

I'm for the reg numbers as well (and for ship names for larger vessels in addition to regs).
It's going to make the game less FPS-ish and increase immersion. And bring some nostalgia as well. Also reg numbers seem to better correspond the current air traffic designitions. And naval traffic, by the way(these are spaceships after all), since small naval vessels tend not to have names but have reg numbers. And, yes, road traffic too.

To summarize: bring us those reg numbers!
