Tracking Down Pirates for Missions

Hello all. I'm pretty new, and I tried to locate this information and didn't see it via search, but had no luck, so I'll ask.

Loving the game, and I've picked up one of the early basic missions, to track down and kill pirates in the LP-132 systems, etc.

So my question is if I'm doing it correctly, as I've only had minimal luck (read: found and killed 1 of 3 objectives). So I'll fly to the designated system, at which point, I find a Nav Beacon that I can go to. Is this where I'm supposed to be for these missions? Should I just be investigating unidentified signal sources?

Lastly, I'll duck into these locations, and see ships, but they have clean criminal records - is the only way to spot a pirate a wanted rating and/or them engaging you?

I apologize for being a clueless new player, thanks for your help!

When I've done these missions previously I've used Resource Extraction Sites. You can find these near some of the planets in various anarchy systems such as LP 98-132. You have to get pretty close to the planet (around 1Ls) before they become visible.

I'm guessing you should be able to complete the mission by killing pirates that inderdict you, and pirates found at Unidentified Signals (in the correct systems ofc), but I have not had much luck doing it that way so far!

First off, you need to be aware that not just any pirate will do. You have to find pirates that are wanted in the system that gave you the mission. This could end up being just one out of 10 pirates you kill. I've done a few of these missions successfully for Eranin. I end up killing about 15 pirates wanted in Federal space, another 10 or more wanted in Asellus, and maybe 3 wanted in Eranin. You make maybe 10,000 for the time you spent on the mission, minus any repairs and fuel. Most of that money comes from turning in vouchers for the various systems, so you still have to run around to turn in the vouchers.
