TrackIR and Mouse Control

I'm thinking about getting TrackIR, but i don't have a joystick and am wondering if it still works with mouse flight controls. My worry is that i'll have to put the game into mouse headlook mode for TrackIR to be able to move the camera. That would make it so i couldn't control the ship's yaw/pitch while using TrackIR, which would be no better than just the mouse.

I've looked for youtube videos with someone using this control scheme with TrackIR but they all are using joysticks. Anyone with TrackIR able to verify it still works with this control scheme?

P.S. I would love a joystick/throttle combo, but one thing at a time and TrackIR would add functionality i don't already have, where a joystick/throttle would be duplicating functionality.

I think you're misunderstanding how Trackir works.

Trackir is simply a set of LEDs that simply attach to either a baseball cap or headphones depending on which you've bought, and a receiving camera sitting on your monitor. The movement of your head dictates where your character looks in-game, not your free-look button. You'll never have to touch your free-look button ever again.

There's no setup within ED, regardless of joystick, hotas, mouse or ouji board & it just worked for me straight away without any faffing about with configuring anything.

That's how i was hoping it worked, thanks. But in an effort to try and explain my reasoning, I thought it may have been just giving the game directional input in place of the mouse or keyboard buttons, not an entirely separate control system.
