TrackIR - How far from sensor

I'm seriously considering buying the TrackIR 5 but was wondering how far you need to be from the sensor for it to work properly.
My monitor is currently recessed under a shelf which means I'll have to put the sensor on the shelf above it. This will put it about 2 feet (60 cm) away from my head.

Is this sufficient distance? :S

Probably unlimited. I have just tested it at 2-3m distance. However, it is not in-game testing, this was the maximum distance that I am able to test if the signal is detected.

I use Track IR 4 (so it's even older) from about 2 meters. It work like charm.

No it is not too close. I am using it at about the same distance or may be a little closer.
