TrackIR vs VR

I was using TrackIR for my flight sims before I received this game about 3 years ago. So naturally I have only played ED with TrackIR.

But I'm curious about VR and am wondering if there is any significant difference/gain to using VR instead of my head-tracking? Thanks.

Well VR adds a new dimension and immersion while gaming.. TrackIR is great with using monitors but VR adds more immersion it is hard to explain you must see it for yourself..

But if your monitor is a 4K one you may not like the lower res of the VR headsets.. but they are getting better quickly..

Yes, you get a unique sense of presence, depth, and flying with VR, particularly if you use FA Off. However you do not gain any competitive advantages.

All VR except Reverb will compare unfavorably to your Alienware 34" with TrackIR because of the low per-eye resolution of VR. You must upgrade your 1080Ti to a 2080Ti for the Reverb to run Elite at high quality settings.

Experience: TrackIR with the Alienware 34", Vive, Odyssey, and Reverb and only the Reverb + FA Off (dual joystick) compares to TrackIR with the best monitors. TrackIR with a 43" 3840x2160 monitor is also good.

I have and use a Track IR. I also have and use the Rift VR.
Pro for the Track IR: not tied to the rig, can do other activities during long trips on other screens/computer/tablet, doesn’t block the tea cup/coffee mug, and... less eye strain - can play for hours.
Pro for VR: unparalleled immersion (once you get past paying attention to / getting distracted by the lower resolution display). Literally sitting IN the ship instead of looking at it through a window. VR in elite really helps sell the sense of scale that the television/monitor simply cannot render.
For an amusing take on it, look up a you tube video by UpIsNotJump called Elite Dangerous is a Nightmare.
I enjoy the VR experience but cannot enjoy it for extended periods of time before I must take the headset off and give myself (and my eyes) a break. YMMV.
