Trade changes after patches

After the last patch my preferred trade route was gone. Not just less profitable, but gone. The involved stations in the system simply stopped to sell the commodity, and there were much less good "bring us stuff" mission available. I find this a quite frustrating. It's already a lot of work to find good routes. You have to take a lot of notes, and fly around a lot. It can become very tedious. If the routes are now going to be changed every other few days, i find it really hard to motivate myself to trade. So my question is:

Will the economy be finalized at some point? When?

Maybe your route was based on a station supplying something it should be a consumer of due to having large excesses of it from the npc trading, the patch having addressed this has allowed the supply and demand has returned to what it was meant to be.

I don't know. The commodity (Palladium) i was buying at the station just vanished from the list (and from all other stations in this system). It was declared as "exported" before the change (maybe also imported?). Anyway, the result is that the structure of the local trading network changed dramatically, forcing me to travel to a new region (where i am still looking for an alternative). This should not happen. Not if it is such a pain to reveal the quantitative details of local trading structure.
If it takes me few evenings to find a trade route, i want to use it for more than two days. Otherwise it's pointless.

I also have found the number of missions noticably decreasing after the last patch but actually I'm happy with that. Now missions are more valuable commodities and as it's not possible any more to just taking missions all along the way (and nothing else) we can have other options to discover more deeply (like general trading, finding new routes, etc.)
Have to say that I'm not the person who can only live with continous profit coming in otherwise I thought something is broken.

The current situation is rather frustrating but you also have to bear in mind that even when/if its working properly, trade routes should dry up or become less profitable at times depending on the level of trade, the markets are meant to be dynamic... however when/if fixed, trade routes should be more logical at least.

Finding that awesome trade route is something I enjoy.. but you should be able to find 'average' routes with a bit less effort and a bit more logic and whilst you can find profitable routes.. the logic part of it frustrates me ;)

Sure, thats arbitrage, but heavy sellers don't become buyers from one moment to the other without any reason.

FDev have said elsewhere that they recognise current trading issues and are working on it but it is a non-trivial change that they want to get spot on first time, so best indications are for a change next week sometime.

EDIT: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=78860 <<< quite a read but dev input is in there, FYI

Thanks, no until next week there is no guarantee.

Indeed. I'd wait for the next week for a (hopefully) definitive fix. For the moment I'm sticking to a route i know (that's logical) and keeping eyes on what happens next week.

I liked the missions. They gave some distractions from trading. I ran a few times back and forth until a lucrative mission appeared. Did the mission and went back to running the trade route. That was fine.

A few times I have found changes in whatever I was grinding the day before. Trade routes drying up, more pirates or no pirates, more or less missions and more or less resocres at a mining ground.

When something drys up I just take it a sign that it's time to change locations for move onto something else.

Yes, that's what I did too - now I do less missions :) (I have seen even empty(!) bulletin boards lately and not only once.)
Anyway it may be just the differences of tastes - I do accept that it can be a downside for gamers. Looking forward to the solution.

But this is a continuous process. The margins simply get smaller. But here the margins actually increased a bit, then the commodity was gone from the list (you cannot even sell it to the station i bought it from before).

Just think of it as the galaxy being in a bit of an economic slump whilst they work out the AI trading issues, that said I can't think of anything more boring than farming the same route session after session, so perhaps it is time to look elsewhere for a new route (if the AI haven't destroyed it already !!)...

That's why missions are an important distraction, but they are gone, too. Anyway, the game is currently designed that way, ie. to be grindy. Since finding a route takes so much time, you need to run it for a while.

I do not agree with op. Economy now fills very real. It's very easy to over trade in small stations. But when you find a rote between 2 station with very strong economy, that route will last for weeks. I just found a very good beryllium supply station (over 150000 units) and another that has huge demand for it (over 300000 units), with income of 850 credits/t.

I am and always will be against throwing easy income at players. So, if you thing your current route is no longer profitable for you, than move that a** of yours and find better one.

I think you missed something from my post. I did not state an opinion you could disagree with. No one's talking about throwing easy income at players.

Good question. I wish the devs were a bit more clear on this but there's likely a complication they are facing that's not easy to fix. Have to wonder if the big change made to gamma (where sectors started offering multiple resource types) is a factor messing things up. B2 and B3 trading seemed to work fine for me at least.

what you can do is stop all traders carrying a certain commodity and drive prices up!
