Newcomer / Intro Trade Data Question

I am looking to try to make some money by buying items in one place and selling in another. What is the best way to see if an item will be profitable at the destination? I know about the trade drop down in the commodities market, but i just see imported and exported. What do these mean?

Various web sites exist that will tell you what sort of goods you can best trade between what sort of station e.g. crop harvesters from industrial to agricultural stations. Then look at high supply items in your current station - these are generally what you want to buy - but also check the galactic average price and see if the product is in an exported to list. If it is that generally means you could take the goods to that system to sell. And vice versa for imported from.

Do you have any external sites that you would recommend?

Slopeys BPC, Thrudds Trading Tool (Not sure if its still around), and I think there is a new one Elite Trading Tool or something like that. While these tools are nice and make trading super easy I would strongly recommend finding your own routes so you don't become reliant on external websites.

In the Galaxy Map under the "View" tab you can tinker with trade routes. Switch off of the Realistic tab on top, then scroll down to the trade data filters (it's right below the faction filters). From there you can toggle on/off all kinds of commodity info. If nothing is popping up try buying the system data for a couple of nearby systems (It's cheap 100cr and can be done right from the Galaxy Map, or you can just fly into the system to get the info for free) this will populate your map with all kinds of cool colorful lines showing which systems ship what to where. It's a great way to quickly see what systems are buying and selling.

One of the easiest and fairly profitable routes for me is Finding a staton that exports Gold, Platinum and other metals and tainf the metels to a place that buys them Usually over 1100cr per unit profit.I usually dead head back but sometimes a they might import food or medicine back at the orinin point.
