I was thinking that since the trade dividends at current... especially since the change was made to increase bounty hunter profits... that perhaps the dividends need modifying since the 50k per 10 minutes you'd get escorting a type 9 is absurdly low and not an incentive to encourage wing escorts.
Now my idea to avoid this being an abusable system for generating extra excess money is that the dividend should come out of the traders profit and be a % of the profits up to an even split as a maximum (so 50/50 for 2 man wing, 33/33/33 for a 3 man and so on) that can be decided on wing formation/point of sale
This way you can negotiate your own protection and pay based on the effectiveness of the protection granted and it might even encourage more traders to come out of the solo/group modes... and more importantly it makes the dividends actually worth something for smaller cargo haulers especially.
