Trade/Rebel Data Salvage Missions - after death?

I have been doing a few trade or rebel data salvage missions and normally I scan the nav beacon, go to specified planet, then within a minute of being there it pops up with 'Mission Signal Location' and I drop in and scoop the cargo.

What happened was, on my most recent one I scooped it and then almost instantly got killed by a pirate. When I sorted the insurance I looked back at the mission and it's stilll there, the 'blip' was still there too on the navcomp list. So I shot over to that star, and was happy to see the blip was also still there for the same planet. I flew over to it (quite a distance!) and circled the planet dozens of times without any joy.

I even went back to nav beacon twice and tried to re-scan it, which did nothing.

I've actually since died once again and done several other missions and meanwhile headed back to this system on a few occasions to try find it but I can't ever find the 'Mission Signal Location Found' little blue waypoint.

Really I would like not to abandon this as I have been working really hard on rep++ for this faction and I know this will knock many hours of my work void.

Is the mission screwed and in need of me to abandon?? If so, it would be lovely if devs could just make a fail condition in the code so the game can just remove and abandon the mission for me as Ive wasted lots of time even just going back looking for the mission. Im holding out hope its not lost. (Some other guys on Steam forum seem to think its fine but after checking back about 5 times over 2 days Im now thinking they might be wrong)

Thanks for reading and any help massively appreciated.

Also if devs reading this... Absolute top notch game, I love it, takes me back to my youth but now with SuperHD textures and realism. And continuiong development! this is one of the only games I have actually bought and I'm very happy with the purchase.

If you hadn't been killed I would say the mission should still be available. But in other trade missions, etc. if you're killed with the cargo, the mission is failed. You should have received a failure notice though. Did you look in your COMMS panel to see if there's a message? What does it say in your MISSIONS tab?

yeah, the mission still appears there and there was no message saying failed. Also the mission blip icon appears there still in that system and planet. I guess I'll have to abandon it then :(

If you collected all of the objects before you died and the system acknowledged it then the mission is borked. You may even have had a message from the mission giver saying something along the lines of "We've noticed that the objects are no longer in your hold..". If that's the case and honestly it sounds like that, then you either abort or wait for the mission to fail. Not sure if there's any difference in the rep loss but it generally feels better to abort.

It would be better to be told that the mission has failed than the current situation, unless of course someone at FD knows different and would care to explain. To be honest not much makes sense with salvage missions. If you collect 2 of 3 objects and die you can still complete the mission but if you collect them all and die you're left in limbo unable to complete the mission but not being told that you've failed.

I think it's a sort of bug; I had a similar experience with an assassination mission. The USS will not appear again after your death. Sorry.

ok guys thanks for the clarification. I was just about to go back and look again haha! I aborted another one before and it took almost a whole segment of the rep back down :( think I might think twice before doing these from now on.

BTW just to complete the thread. The game gave me no message of any kind to state the mission is failed. And it does still show up like it is a 'do-able' mission with blips etc. Could be a little clearer in a perfect world.

If you've got Horizons you'll find that planetary salvage missions are much easier. You are almost never attacked during them and you have plenty of time to recover the other salvage.
