Trader defensive weap

If a trader wants to do as much damage as possible on one pass without getting into a mini dog fight before they high wake out, what basic non eng/ or PP weapon is best at this point for a Python? A basic lock- launch and CYA action

1) Prox mines?

2) Torpedoes?

3) Missiles?

Mines have been reported as the most effective. Can't comment from personal experience. But turning to face and fire missiles/torpedos can't be good right?

Frankly i dont know...Ive only experienced staying and killing them with basic lasers and have no idea if initially facing them and launching missiles or torpedoes as i pass enroute to high wake is all that negative. The Python can take a few hits, a bit more than a few.

Will prox mines attack anyone nearby including myself if i launch enough of them and stick around a bit?

I'd say mines ... a trading ship shouldn't really be fighting off pirates unless it is capable of doing so .. If you're flying a Space shed, it should be treated as one. Brave Sir Robin you way outtathere :)

It can be hard to get missiles locked and fired if you are turning to boost in a fast pass then boost away to escape the engagment. But possible, at least some of the time. Topedoes require a longer run before arming, so would not work for this application. A plasma accelerator may also work well on a close pass. As you run, though, mines are ace. With all the hardpoints on a python, and the large ammo afforded to mines, id give all three a go :)

Cheers,
Metkis

Well prox mines are very much a run and chase tactic, of the other two I hear torpedoes are not that effective, so missles then/

I concur -- a trader should be loaded out for cargo and evasion. If you manage to loadout for combat, too, and can make a go of it, then kudos. As for me, I specialize each ship in either fighting or fleeing. There is no in-between.

I prefer weapons that increase my chances of escape.

This is why I've equipped shock mines on my Asp.

Now, just need to lose an interdiction attempt...which has yet to happen to me (other than willing submits)

I used T9 without shields and missiles.
Works very well but need to get into a turning battle or joust.

I think mines are the best solution.
Just fly straight line and drop them. So easy from the videos I've seen.
