Traders Anonymous Fleet

The fact that I can defend it is tantamount to it being a debatable issue!

No. The difference is you can debate it without any consequences.

If you hadn't posted this thread I couldn't have commented on it.

If I made a thread saying "Ardavix has a group and they're using an exploit" I would have been banned from the forum for naming and shaming.

Not questioning the mods here. The reason why this thread has gone on for so long is because it was posted late night GMT so few mods were about. The reason it still exists is because most of the info about the exploit is gone from the thread, it's already been discussed before and the devs already commented that it's a bug.

The only bonus to this thread is fd now have a list of names of confirmed exploiters whose accounts they can check out.

Yeah, I can see why that might be annoying. But I just figure that there are always going to be cheaters and they're lame and not my problem. They're the incompetents flying ships that they don't know how to steer and expensive warships they don't know how to fight. They're also the ones who show up here in the forums saying "I am bored" and "this game has no depth" ;) All they need from me is a healthy dose of courteous contempt, and I've forgotten they ever existed within a couple hours anyway. (shrug)

There have been a lot of arguments on the forums about various grinding tricks and people getting pricy ships too fast, etc. Why care about that? What I'd care about is if I could pilot a dogfight as well as Isinona. Because I'm pretty side Isinona in a sidey could blast one of these 'overnight elite' in any ship they could buy. Cheating makes the cheater lame and lazy. That doesn't say anything about you. You should still value your accomplishments in their own right, and what the cheaters do doesn't reduce them one whit.

I agree.

The only aspect that can affect us is if we are a real fan of the game and want to see it do well. We don't want exploits to go unpunished because it can broadcast the wrong message about the game.

There have been a few exploits already in ed. So far, only one has resulted in a public punishment to those who abused it (the founders world exploit, where ill gotten funds were removed).

Some developers take a very firm stance on any exploits. Others don't.

If I am thinking about buying a game and I read about it having lots of exploits that go unpunished, it might impact my decision to buy.

That's the only thing I can think of. Some of us feel pride over the games we like to play and this sort of thing can tarnish that. It's not necessarily rational but it's a human reaction nonetheless.

So that part of me wants this to be fixed quickly, despite it having no negative impact on my game play (as opposed to the shield trick, which puts me off playing pvp at all so does have a negative impact on my game - that, I want fixed even faster).

If the funds are removed, even better. Some people just like good old justice and balance in all things. But if it doesn't happen, it's no big deal.

The rest of your quote sort of denies this statement. However, I can respect your opinion accordingly.

Being upset and discussing my opinion on the maturity of others aren't mutually dependent things.

The "indignant" feelings are irrational. I said that (and I'm big enough to admit that this sort of thing triggers that feeling; as I recognise it as irrational, I suppress it). But it's a game I love. I don't like seeing its bugs being flaunted. I want it to be fixed. And I prefer games that have a no tolerance attitude to exploits and discussing them.

But I'm not upset. This is a game. It's not important enough to be upset over. I do, however, reserve the right to formulate an opinion on something as to whether I think it's right or wrong.

I would add, furthermore, that using the line of argument based on "why do you care?" or "are you upset?" or "you seem jealous" isn't the kind of argument I'd associate with mature adults engaging with useful debate.

Wow. I don't know how most of you kept your patience in this thread. There are only so many times you can present clear evidence but have it ignored by someone sticking his fingers in his ears and singing "Lalalalalalalalalalala".

in the end, cheating defeats itself. It removes the fun from the game and makes any real sense of achievement pointless, for me at least.

Additionally, as mentioned, we provide wings with afk sitters/campers who sit at stations with their beacons on whilst other traders teleport to them

If this isn't an exploit, I don't know what is. Describing the use of afk'ers and campers as a legit way to make tons of money and then claiming it is "intended behavior" is beyond me.

Even though I agree with Distance that the dev quotes he linked are clear evidence that using wing beacons for trading in this way is an exploit, it would be appreciated if Sandro or someone else from FD would just post a quick statement so people who still don't get it have their explicit "proof".

The reason why I take this issue so personally is because I used to enjoy trading. I worked my way up to an anaconda in open through hundreds of hours of effort. Finding out people could make 100mil in a night and then happily post about it on the forums saying it's intended gameplay completely killed trading for me. Why should I play legitimately if people are using an exploit.

It has the knock on effect that everytime I'm in a station and I see people sitting around in a station, community goal for example, I'm thinking players are using this exploit and the guys are asleep whilst activating the beacon and making money.

Before I used to enjoy chatting to other traders but now in all systems where I know there are trade routes I see a ton of people afk in the station, players flying in and out of the station but noone in supercruise. This isn't right and it's widespread.

I do because it's people like you who have ruined an aspect of the game I used to enjoy and you obviously care because you're trying to defend exploiting a game bug that has made you 100's of millions of credits.

I absolutely agree with Disnance's sentiment and actually I consider completely switching to solo play once proper interaction with NPCs is implemented for the same reason.
