Traders: why play in open if you're just going to combat log?

First couple traders I've interdicted in Lave after a break have combat logged on me. Solo exists for a reason. I don't understand why you play in open if you can't stomach interaction with other players.

(I suppose I should note that I'm referring to players disconnecting to evade piracy. I'm not engaging traders in combat, just seeking cargo)

I gather you mean buy 'interaction with other players' as "I will steal your cargo then blow you up" - yep ask any player, they really enjoy that !

I only space other ships when they get ornery and start shooting. I even let runners off with a repair bill. Regardless, if you're playing in open, you should be prepared to handle that situation, not just mash alt+f4 the instant a threat appears.

I wasn't one of them, but I'm a trader, I play in open, and my server-connection is constantly getting dropped no-matter what I do. So while it hasn't happened yet, it's just a matter of time before this happens when I'm in an instance with someone.
When the servers start getting really bad, I usually switch to Solo to avoid exactly this scenario, but it happens without warning.

I don't claim to speak for anyone else, but you asked, and for me, this would be why :)

The Combat Loggers want to pretend they are 'Open' players. Tsk tsk. Hey...its their right; they can play the way they want.

But I do sympathize; as a Solo player.

Try kicking a small child or granny ..same challenge and thrill.

Try primarily taking winged Pythons and Anacondas. Bit more to it than picking on T6s... though of course I respect your right to make blind, stumbling, disingenuous and flat-out wrong assumptions.

Come on guys, piracy is the hardest way to turn a profit in the game. I haven't met CMDR Bossbrigand so I don't know if there is some reputation for griefing or something you're reacting too, but if it's only because (s)he's a pirate, then ease up, 'cos they contribute a lot to the game and if you don't want to encounter them, you have every tool you need to avoid them - even in Open. (But the simplest tool is obviously Solo/Group :) )

Or are we just roleplaying here? In which case... Hear Hear! That filthy pirate scouge of the inner systems - intolerable I say! There oughta be a law! :D

Illusion of danger my friend... illusion of danger...

It works both ways. If you don't want people to combat log because it ticks you off, why don't you play in Solo?

I say this is not quite rational. The OP seeks meaningful player interaction, Solo doesn't provide that. The environment that allows player interaction isn't competent, thus the OP is expressing his dismay.

Typical ignorant stereotype of Open mode players. The last thing on a pirate's list is to blow someone up and will do anything to prevent it and get a portion/all of the trader's cargo.

It's the logic of someone who deals with the game, with all its wrinkles and possibilities, exactly as it's presented, without complaint.

I believe it's the expression of disapproval of another player's complaint in an ignorant way.

He can't fight a ship with wepons because he looses so he needs to go after traders to get his jollies off killing other players.
Again, illogical argument. A pirate should go after less-well armed ships. Since pirate does not want a fight. What you're describing is a griever.

I know, I'm awful. How could I? (95 tons of synthetic fabrics... hardly a big haul, and anyway more than I had room in my hold for!)

Must resist .... nope failed

Firstly, the OP has not mentioned that he flies the Jolly Roger - all we know is he thinks it is fine to interdict and attack other Commanders and is upset that they combat log out.

Secondly, you have to be joking with your statement that Pirates contribute a lot to the game. It is just game sanctioned theft and bully tactics. Why do you think there are so many self proclaimed Pirates around if it doesn't turn a profit - because it gives them, in their minds only - the right to attack and quite often destroy any ship they like. If they are bought to task over it, they can sit back and state that the reason they just blew up that Harmless rated T7 was because they didn't drop cargo quick enough but it is okay cos they're a Pirate ....
