Trading 101

Hey im ray nova and what i did so far was smuggling and bountyhunting mixed with a bit of exploration. so far i thought it was pretty good income but the fact that people who started dec 16th just like me and yet have a pythos or asp allready forces me to reconsider my playstyle.

see the asp is the ship im going for. it seems to offer the most flexabilty when it comes to firepower, jumprange, cargo space and so on. currently im in a cobra which is about to be maxed out. in the time since release i managed to get 2.4 million worth of account balance, ships and ship upgrade with an average game time of about 2-3 hrs a day.

i picked bounty hunting because it seemed the most profitable and exciting proffesion to be around. but if it needs to happen i wont mind trading for 1 or 2 weeks if that means i get to finally rock the galaxy with a shiny asp explorer.

yet i think i might need some help setting up trade routs... i guess trading successfuly will need a advanced working method with the galaxymap which i didnt use that much so far (picked a system that looked remote enough to host enough bad guys and had systems with stations around, boom done).

the other thing i need to know is buy low sell high... any other stuff i need to keep in mind?

Look up a 'rares trading' thread for routes, its easy to make money in a Cobra that way especially if you link it with exploration on the way.

Yep a good rares route brings in large payoffs if you can travel the 160 light years or so from source. I found that the issue was that it's tempting to head off into combat mid way through a route, forgetting that you've got 150k in profit sat in the hold. It's much easier to forget rares you paid little for than a load of normal cargo.
I imagine it's also possible to bring in the same range of profit over time if you can find a high margin bi-directional normal trade route that has only a short jump and stations near the primary star. Just then depends what you prefer doing. The rare trading is slightly less back and fourth. You do need a fuel scoop though really, otherwise you'd have to keep docking and pay out cash to refuel.
