Trading and Ben Ryder

Hey everybody, I'd like everyone's opinions (with Lore and RP considered) on the best ship for early game trading, and perhaps more options for buying ships with disadvantages at lower price.

I think of this because of a section from the ELITE 1984 novella, "The Dark Wheel". "It had begun with Ben Ryder, who had traded almost exclusively with shot-up pirate ships."

I would gladly fly a Viper with a cargo hold equating that of a Hauler with better protection and a pirate skin (which I have), even if it came with a bounty on the ship itself across many systems, or even with one of the major factions. Perhaps, the ship could be sold with an unrepairable low hull integrity, or an unrepairable hull or subsystems, or perhaps the entire ship could just be unrepairable, but sold at an exorbitantly low price (Say, 30%). Also, if the ship has the slightest bounty on it, it could incur lots of trouble from hunters.

Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated, and forums user Ben Ryder, you should really make your signature a hyperlink to http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/dkwheel.htm :)

He's too busy making tea..

Anyway I can see that happening my first "trading" ship was a stripped down Viper without shields and maxed out with as many cargo holds it would ..hold.

Had a sweet gig back then in an Anarchy system HDS 1978 (I think it's in the middle of Alliance space now Alliance controlled) ferrying weapons to the platform and computer components to the main station which were very close because the planets they orbited were tidal locked with each other... good times It wasn't long that I got my Cobra trading that way and I turned it into the same thing until it got enough teeth to be a good BH Ship then left that hellhole and never came back... until recently when it changed ownership.
