Trading and other advice (need help)

Hello

First off, I started playing Elite Dangerous about two weeks ago, and I'm familiar with most things in the game now. I found a trading route with 1 jump, 11ly from each other, takes about 3 min including take off and landing with a 1100cr profit each trip. Now, I have decided that a Type-6 isn't sufficient enough as the 100t cargo only nets 110000cr a trip. It is quicker to make money with my Vulture in RES bounty hunting, as I have a spot with pristine reserves.

The question: Will a Type-7 be sufficient enough for the trade route? What's it's max cargo limit? Preferably a ~200t
cargo hold, 220000 profit every 3 minutes?

Or am I better off farming RES? I average ~1mil/hr doing that

My current goal is to get a Python for the trade route, then work up to a Type-9 or Anaconda

Opinions and advice are greatly appreciated.

A type 7 has something like 228 max cargo without a shield, above 200 with one...so you're clear there. If you have Empire ranks it's worth getting a Clipper, which has more cargo space and is fast as hell...can shave off a little time off your route that way.

....but really, my advice to you is not to worry *so* much about cr/h. Just do it, you know?

EDIT: don't get a t9, they're painfully slow. @_@

Isn't a Clipper 22mi? The trade route is actually Empire space and there's a Clipper in both stations. I currently have 7mil, and I'm planning on selling my Vulture for the Type-7. How much more cargo does the Clipper have? Is it worth double the price of a Type-7?

When I had a Type-6, I averaged around 10,000 cr/minute. With a Vulture in a RES, 1-1.5 million/hour was normal if and only if I found a reasonable instance, but it could be less than 0.5 million if not.

Are credits your only motivation at the moment?

Hi, if i may give my advise...
Try to gain more money from bounty hunting and a bit of trading and then sell both ships for a clipper to get used to the big ship mechanics. Then the phython eventually, which is the best multi-role ship imo. The clipper is great for the next level of trading and a little later bounty hunting. At least that worked for me this way before 1.3
Good luck and have fun, regardless of my blabbering

Yes, along with other things. I would say my current motive is to get a good ship (Python) and go from there. I want to explore, trade, combat, and own a variety of role specific ships, ie Diamondback, Fer de Lance, Anaconda, Vulture

Actually a Type-6 is a really good explorer. Expect 27+ light year jumps from it.
The DBX is good but I would still go for the Asp as an explorer.
Vulture for RES farming.
Python for multipurpose, not role specific (IMHO).
YMMV.

Really depends what you up to. Bounty hunting can be decent cash and if you have a vulture already its easy to earn money that way. If you dont have one yet a cobra is not bad either but much slower and more risky.
If you still into small ships you can also try some rare goods trading or do some mining. This can be quite profitable when u get some nice mining missions ( at high tech systems ) too.
Community goals can be nice also fo cash just the trading ones are mostly waste of time.
I would not get a T7 better get a clipper if you need to, but profit is still low even with over 200t. I personally would only start trading with T9 or Anaconda. Oh t7 and clipper cant land on outposts, only python can or smaller ships with less cargo space.
T9 is nice, i have one myself with a good route you get decent cash. On my route i make around 1,3-1,4 mil per trip ( takes 17-20 mins ).
The T9 is really slow and it does not get much better with A thrusters. I would defenly buy D thrusters because the E ones are really a pain and get a docking computer on t9.
My T9 holds 496t of cargo. Not sure about Conda, the only advance is higher jump range if you fit smaller modules in it, but it wont hold as much cargo like the T9.

Python for trading, i would say for outposts might be ok but i really wouldnt bother with trading untill you can hold at least 400t but thats me.

By the way i own Sidewinder, Adder, Cobra, T6, Imp Courier, Asp, Vulture, Python and T9 and play only a bit over 3 months now and not even all day more casual 1-2 hours a day.
But hey i was lucky had a lot nice Community goals and some global awards that did help me get money fast. My A grade Python is my ship for everything, fighting, mining and explore. Just trading i do now only in T9.
I only miss 30 mil now then i already made the 120mil i spend on T9 with 20% off back with only tading in him. But trading is really boring, i must have a good day to do it for more then 1 hour.

My type 7 is configured for self defense - shields plus weapons as my routes aren't affected by the reduction in LY jump - so 212 tons cargo

If you drop shields, can run 228 tons cargo.

I had sidewinder -> adder -> cobra -> type 6 -> Asp -> type 7 ; all cargo spec

The jump in revenue of whatever routes you know / fly are pretty significant going from type 6 or Asp to a type 7

Other people's numbers will be different, but to give some sense of scale, I went from 2M credits/hour with Asp at 116 tons cargo, to 3.75M credits/hour with my type 7.
Not quite double but a really, really nice jump in revenue.

I would recommend getting into cobra cargo asap, then type 6 cargo asap, then Asp, then type 7 - sooner you do, faster you get into next progression.

No idea above type 7, that's highest I've gotten so far, and frankly can't wait to get out of the flying brick when I can afford something like a python (clipper would be nice but not grinding empire faction right now)

I've gone sw, adder, cobra, asp, t6, vulture & t7. I spent my playing time at the weekend grinding in the T7 doing a 3.8k cr/t profit route. I then traded the t7 and vulture in for a python with 20mil change to equip.

currently it has 212t cargo space and is heavily armoured but the big thing that I've noticed is the lack of laden range even with an A class drive.

for fighting I've got a class 3 beam, class 3 burst turret and 2 class 2 pulses for shield work. I've then got a class 3 frag canon and a class 2 cannon for the hull. To be fair, most ships don't survive past a few seconds when all the lasers are lighting them up!

in the T7 I was so vulnerable so it is really nice to have a ship with the same cargo capacity but be as hard as a coffin nail. Interestingly I've also stopped being picked on by the player 'Pirates'...... They clearly don't like picking on people who can fight back! Anyway, I digress...

So with a 3-4mil rebuy I was very concerned about going straight into a high intensity res and suddenly losing everything I've worked for and decided to go back to trading until I've got a bit of a cushion. It's much easier as the Python is much more manoeuvreable than the t7. I've also got into a few fights and noticed that the Python isn't anywhere near as easy to manoeuvre as the vulture, but then again I didn't expect it to be.

what kind of profits are you making per tonne on a round trip? Best I've managed is 3880cr/t for non rares.

My advice is to start grinding Empire rank now. The T7 can make you money...yes... but is a tin can death trap in open. Grind to Baron so you can get the Clipper. More cargo and faster.. Way better ship

Don't aim for as many credits as possible, you'll never enjoy the game that way. If you're grinding for the best ship, you'll be sorely disappointed, they're all the same with minor differences.

But do get a Type 9. Most fun ship to fly after the Cobra.

I agree,,,though most will not....barely fits in the mail slot....turns like a whale on acid.....as fast as a tortoise...jumps as far as a 300lb man in a long jump competition...GREAT SHIP!!!...loved every minute of it and even stayed in it long after I could afford an Anaconda.
