Trading and Rep

Hi Commanders,

Quick question, Does trading with a certain faction or factions increase rep with them?

Regards

I don't know. I just became friendly by accident with a local station today... was kinda baffled why they turned green on radar / HUD all of the sudden, realized it must've been my constant trading with the station.

I did bring in palladium with high demand all the time, though, but the other end of my trade route did not yet turn green, although I think I sold an item with high demand there as well. Then again the other end was an outpost, not a station.

So in short, who knows?

Follow up question, do you get more rep if the demand is HIGH for an item?

I'm thinking that might be the case. I've been doing trade runs back and forth between two systems. In one direction I'm taking 216t of fairly high value goods (Progenitor Cells) which has a high demand in the other system. I am now Allied with the controlling faction of the station where I'm selling it and the demand is high. In the other direction I'm taking 216t of lesser value goods (Computer Components) which has a medium demand in the other system. I'm 'Friendly' with the faction there. So, I reckon it's either total VALUE of goods sold, or as you suspect the demand that helps your reputation.

I've pretty much done the same number of trips to each station, so must have sold roughly the same tonnage at each.

Thanks guys for your response's, its all very interesting, if a DEV is online and looking in could you explain a bit more as I would like to know.

But by your answers (Kalpa & Shayde) it does sound like the higher the demand the better rep.

All the best. :)

From my experience, it's related to the profit margins.

But it could simply be related to the value of the goods. More money would logically result in them liking you more.

Generally speaking though, trading better means faster rep. I've gone from neutral to allied very quickly on high profit routes.

You need ~100 million in trading profit to go from neutral to allied with a major faction, assuming all stations involved are affiliated with that major faction. Independents only require a few million.

100 Million! OMG this will take me years :(

That's another undocumented feature. ;)

Rares are a fantastic way to make a station friendly towards you.

Really, I will give that ago see if it helps :)

There seems to be various terminologies on the forums. When you say 'major faction' are you meaning Federation, Empire and Alliance ? I've also heard the term used for the dominant local faction in a system.

Ta :)
