Trading does need a buff, as other things probably needs.

This right here comrade.

I just unlocked the cutter that will not only cut through some economically enslaved systems with tyrant powers (you know who you are p) (they have already started to fall by thy father-ship Python via the exact above strategy) but earn me mega coinage more than I already was in the Python..(still rules the cosmos tho)

I was trying to figure out how I hit Elite in trade the other day having only A-B traded 600M CR to date. Must be all those haulage missions I was doing to break up the A-B monotony, I've easily done a couple hundred million in those.

Yeah, haulage missions counts towards your Elite rank.

Smart trading involves looking for system states in war/famine etc, profits are huge.

So much this. That's where the non-slaves big margins are, really. Since they're state-related, these routes change all the time, but a bit of map filtering to find destinations and some EDDB consulting for the sources will get you up to speed quick.

Thing is, when you begin to find these systems in famine or are disease ridden and in outbreak, or going bust due to isolation and you source out the goods they desperately need, it will will sooner or later no longer be about CRs, your in game drive will truly come alive and that's when CRs swell on their own.

The systems that resonate with your own living breathing philosophy will be in these negative states and are as we speak....asking for your help and ....THEY pay HUGE for it and many times you can help by selling goods at a starport in your monster hauling cutter

Thinking about the 'how i got elite trade' reminded me how I got mine. I used to take a bunch of data missions form one station then pick up a bunch of commodies that would sell in that system and wing it. All done in an asp > python > conda. It's weird because I'm kinda doing the same thing right now in a cutter so i can push into Admiral territory for the Feds.

I quite like this way of working, its a nice way to spent an afternoon pottering around.

Thanks for the many varied and thoughtful posts. Respect :)

No I suppose that my initial post was more a stigma of being where one is; it took 1,5 years to become an Elite trader and even longer to build the network. In my Python today I rarely take anything that pays lees than 1,5 mill. credits One jump. thats it. I've become to lazy, I suppose. Doing Bulk leaves me cold now, I dont NEED the credits and I resent flying anything bigger than 'Conda.
Being what we are and where we are colors our vision of how it looks at the other end of the ladder, flying a Hauler making 50 000 credits. I hope that most new Cmdr's shy the exploits, life will be very harsh when they are removed.
I take from your replies that money can still be made from A-B trading, well all is good then (I initially stated that I had investigated very little), so it is still a viable career. Good.
Cheers Cmdr's

So far anyways, it seems to me re CRs and missions the game is a lot like the Serengeti, there is the monsoon season of harvest then the comes the drought.

With a large hauler and realizing the desperate needs of systems in trouble, one can migrate to the high ground and continue to feed when these devs get all moody again and switch the guyme into drought mode. (is the dry season about to begin again? large payouts are moving delivery further and further way)

During the monsoon harvest, you in effect can reap a Devil's harvest while helping the needy like only the Devil/Lived can. We are still kinda sorta in that right now

I think Trade is in a really good place right now, and I hope it stays that way.

It has built-in progression systems in terms of both ships, and knowledge/experience, that I feel are quite rewarding. Even though it doesn't really make the most credits any more on it's own, the gains are still really solid, if you are savvy. Not only are they solid, but knowledgeable Traders can always print money when they need to, and with minimal risk compared to Combat activities. Additionally, no matter what changes Frontier might make to any of the other means of making a living, savvy Traders will always have good income potential.

Not everyone enjoys being a space Trucker, but I really like the fact that there is this one, reliable way of making good money in the game that is likely to always be there, no matter what else changes.
