Trading Guide?

Hi everyone

I am looking for some help in earning money in the game. What's the best way of doing it? I have done some missions delivering and only net around 3000-5000 credits. How do I get some more money so I can actually buy different ships?

Fastest way I've found to get money are Gold runs around Freeport. Slip into supercruise and coast at min velocity, watch for Unidentified Signals and jump into them. There's about a %20 chance of gold containers in the instance waiting to be scooped up, but watch out for Pirates. If you see them jump in as you start scooping them up go FAOff and BOOST, supercruise out and find another one :)

Sell gold on Black market in Freeport, try dock fast as to avoid being scanned (you are carrying stolen cargo btw).

Hi Cmdr, what are you flying? if its a sidewinder with 4t you wont make a lot of money fast at first. have a good play around with the galaxy map to see what is moving where and that will give you a good indication.

some things to look out for on an Agricultural world are grain at around 70cr, animal meat at around 1000 cr, tea/coffee at around 1000 cr.

then fly to the nearest industrial and (figures aprox) grain will net you 100cr, animal meat 400 cr and about the same for tea and coffee.

on the return journey animal monitors at 150 will make you 100 and harvesters at 1600-1900 will sell for 2400

once you build up to something like a cobra at 36 tonnes capacity the money starts rolling in, from there you can either arm it to the teeth and do a combination of trading and bounty hunting or upgrade further to a type 6 then a 9 to make the big bucks.

once you upgrade your ship always make sure you leave yourself enough cash in hand to pay the excess on your insurance should you crash your ship, plus a little bit more so you can continue to trade.

insurance excess is around 10% of the value of your ship and equiptment so for a bog standard cobra you would need to save 20-25k minimum to avoid being wiped out.

once you have a few bucks, a few good weapons and a large enough ship start looking for an extraction system, it may take you a few hops before you can sell but i have heard it said you can make 5k a tonne on gold if you know where to go.

good luck and good trading, see you in the black :)

For me...it was basically what you are doing. 3k-5k trips for a couple of hours. That is if you don't want to take on any menacing npc's which I didn't want to do just yet.

All in all I shuttled fish/agri-medicines back 'n from from Aulin Enterprises -> Chango Dock for a few hours, got up to about 27k in credits...bought a hauler for 23,920 credits & just did the same. I'm up to only about 55k now but it's steady work. I know there are faster ways to make money, don't know what but this is good honest work.
And just so you know...this was in SOLO play. I really want to get the hang of the game before I go truly online.

Good luck!!!

Surya to Asellus primus ( Beagle 2 ) and back...

Depending on your ship you can do it in three jumps max... No need to refuel
Minimum profit is 1000 credits per cannister...

In a Lakon 9 I was making 500 000 each way!

I ll leave you to work out what the cargo was ;)

* multiple jumps only take a minute or so longer than a single jump as the hyperspace part of the jump is over very quickly... These multi jump trading routes are often way more lucrative than a single jump route.

I found legit trading is the fastest to make money. Scooping up stuff or doing missions was just arduous, slow and the missions don't pay much.

I found a program "Elite Dangerous Trade Assistant". This let's you keep track of prices in all the systems and calculate the best trades. Within 4 days I had upgraded to Hauler, Cobra, Type6, Type9 and Anaconda. To really make money fast the Type 9 is the way to go. I was getting over 600k credits per run.
