Trading Guides

My google foo is failing me.

Are there any decent guides for trading that aren't "Go to this website and enter your current and destination systems to be spoon fed a profitable route"?

I initially obtained my credits from a bit of piracy and bounty hunting, but I wanted to give the trading thing a shot. However I'd like to do it without 3rd party tools if possible. From an RP point of view my alt doesn't have access to them.

So I'm basically looking for some hints or guides to get started trading only using the in game tools.

hey! unusual request :D

i think there is no newer guide around. but here is what i do when trading without 3rd party tools:

1. make a list of high value commodities (above 1000 cr/T galactic average) produced by each economy. reason: profit is percentage,

2. add to the list, which commodity sells where.

3. add to the list any commodity which you can sell for more than 500 cr/t profit you find. for exampel basic medicines sell for >2000 cr/t in civil war systems

4. if you want to do state depending traing: take a scouting ship, and scout potential routes for sources in specific economic states. you always want to export from a boom system, and ideally you want to bring something back. this is where the list "what sells where" helps.

5. if you don't want to do state depending trading, take a ship with trading samples of all high value goods, and scout a route.

you can either go for A-B-A trading, e.g. flying between the same two stations till the profits dry up. this burns out fast. or you can do something crazy, like setting up a 50 stops trade route between the three capitals. or something in the middle - a nice circle of three or four stations in the right states, resulting in a nice overall profit.

with profit you will also gain reputation with the local minor factions, and the station controlling faction will get into boom over time and win influence.

you can combine that with picking up fetch xxx trade missions, if you run a cycle with all economies included.

fly safe, and enjoy!

I use the Stations own trading report (Far right in services screen). Here it tells you what is occurring in the trade for that station.

Technically TCE is third party but as it is all "in cockpit" it shouldn't break your RP. You can plug it into EDMC but don't have to and can rely on data you enter yourself. Having OCR is really handy but you do have to scroll and OCR multiple times to get all of the data. First time I tried it I just hit the button and wondered why it only gave me trades on a very small number of commodities :)

Without tools it will be tricky as you have to note down prices somewhere!
