trading hauler suggestions - newbie inside

:)Hi Guys, I'm at the beginning and I need again some help from you more experienced CMDRs.

I want to install (if it's possible) a more bigger CARGO EXTENSION to my Hauler.

Actually I have: 2 x 8 TON and stripped the explorer scanner to put a 2 TON so acqually I have 18 TON cargo space.

I've saw some screens showing a much more bigger cargo extension like 16x... Where I can find those?

I'm actually hanging around ERAVATE (CLEVE HUB is where I always dock when going offline) and usually go to FRIGAHA system to purchase some metals for my trade runs.

In none of those stations I can install those juicy 16x extension.

Any help to maximize my Hauler?

I don't think you can equip the hauler with 16t cargo racks. The size of it's top internal compartments is 3, which means it can only fit 8t cargo racks.

That's the maximum you can have in a Hauler if you want to keep your shields. If you replace the shield generator with a cargo rack you can have 22 tons.

Those won't fit in a Hauler.

The Hauler has Class 3 internal compartments, and the biggest cargo rack they will take is 8T. To fit a 16T you need a Class 4 compartment, Class 5 for a 32T, etc.

If you're prepared to risk flying without shields (I wouldn't) you can replace the Class 2 shield gen with a 4T rack and get 22T. That's as much as you can Haul in a Hauler.

edit: Dammit, ninja'd while typing.

Some people sacrifice their shield generator for more space.

There is a downside to that - you might get interdicted and if you do, you'll be a sitting duck.

Some commanders who did that came on the forum to complain about interdiction

Others forgot to have enough spare cash for their insurance

So - my advice in 3 steps:

Kit your ship out at the Elite Shipyard http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=30V,5QG,2-3w3w3w2M2M2M3c,05U05U7Og02M
Never fly without enough for insurance
Look at the system security level (in the galmap) before you travel
Keep an eye on your scanner for ships that might interdict you

If you take the risky option and get killed, don't forget that it's Elite: Dangerous out there.

Have fun and good luck.

Maybe you should look at upgrading to an Adder, I think it can carry slightly more cargo can it not? Although thinking about it I might be wrong. Your next step should probably be the Cobra, it has plenty of cargo space.

Many thanks for the explanation bro, i didn't know yet that internal compartments have limited installing options.

And this lead me to another question: any shipyard can supply me with every kind of upgrade? So it's the ship internal configuration that limits the choice I am presented in the outfitting station?

Nope - the station outfitting list varies by station. High tech ones have better kit than others. Extraction ones often only have the basics plus mining gear. The list changes every so often and isn't static.

No. Each shipyard has a different selection of available equipment. Usually high-tech stations have the best upgrades. Your reputation may also have an effect on the availability.

Different shipyards have varying numbers of modules available. The high-tech ones are the best.

Your best getting one of these, 1500t cargo, yet fits on a small pad.
