Trading nerf and other frustrations

Well that's one way to make trading less of a grind, allow you to only trade briefly at a location before making it hardly worth the effort. Find new place, repeat, go back to first place. Yep, much less of a grind.

I think I need a break, not that I play it often as I don't, but a break until a number of features are implemented.

Eg NPC comms. So we can't communicate with 99.9% of other ships. Pretty lonely and uninteractive. Don't bother asks when that'll come about, you'll get roundly ignored. But never mind, a wondering space station has been released that's mobile (except it's not, unless disconnected from the server.)

Missions. Not up to scratch for a 90s game with generic blocks of text with hardly any variation.

Anything worth doing, getting or achieving gets nerfed. I get the rebalancing, but is there any point to do the looong grind, and yes it is a grind if you want to be earning some money to do more - and by more I mean that even in Piracy and bounty hunting you are v limited right now, esp when you can't communicate with 99.9% etc. so going into my cobra for a break from trading is not much less tedious.

Don't get me started on where the hell the founder things I paid £50 for are, I paid back then to have the benefits on or near release, not 'Soon' (ie not soon) and then have semantics used to wriggle out of FD's commitments.

Just got reply to my support ticket I released many months ago. 'Are you still having this problem'? Well I don't know it was so long ago I will have to try and retest, but no I won't in fact, it should have been responded to many months ago. Fancy beta testing 1.1? No thanks, I Alpha'd and beta'd the first at my own cost and I don't fancy getting back in a Sidey for the 9th or 10 time to raise support tickets that may or may not be answered.

It'd be good to know how long to leave the game to wait until many of the key issues are in but the roadmap is private and not being shared.

I am sorry that I sound negative but there was a reason I paid all that money to alpha, and be a founding member (though wish I hadn't), the game's visuals are stunning. But if I met a girl with stunning visuals but ultimately left you with a hollow experience then I would only try her out so many times, particularly when she doesn't answer me if I ask whether she has any more to deliver, or when that might be. Sorry love, it's just not working out.

I have exactly the same sentiments and I'm sorry that I feel that way. I would like to hear something concrete from the FDEV team in regards to 'when we will see some real meat added to the bones'. For the time being my cobra is covered up with a dust sheet in the garage and if the better weather hopefully comes along I'll take it out for a spin again.

OP, prepare to have your thread derailed by a bunch of people who will tell you:

1. "This is not the game you're looking for..." *waves hand*
2. Candy Crush is probably more up to your skill level
3. Too many threads like these. Can't we just combine them all and bury the message?
4. I'm loving this hollow experience of a simulator OP, I donno whats wrong with you!
5. I don't agree with any of your valid criticisms OP. The Milky Way Simulator 1.07 is the best thing since sliced bread.
6. "EVERYTHING IS AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

+1 rep OP. I agree with the issues you bring up in your post.

All that said, I am really enjoying this game. Maybe not having been involved in the beta, or not having all that much time to play, or not feeling any desire for a ship beyond my Asp are all factors in this.

Cheers commanders!

Grind

I do feel there should be more missions overall, yet the trade nerf was seemingly to stop the massive inflation in the economy that was happening. Too many people could make a quick buck through certain exploitative trade routes which was causing the economy to become inflated.

Wow, 8 rep pts already from the OP, I'm glad it's not just me having a whinge as I was starting to feel like it was.

Rep to you sir.

The only reason I go into the 1.1 beta is to test what they're doing so I'm prepared when it gets released. The only plus I see so far is the improved range and speed of the routing in the Galaxy map. Other than that, any sane player stays in 1.07 to build credit balance in order to be able to make any needed outfitting or ship changes to survive all the re-balancing that will take place.

It feels now like there will be so many changes at once to weapons and shields that the biggest explosions you're going to see are most likely to be here in the fora.

Fix or develop a real communications system? No way man! We first need to make your weapons self-destruct.

How stupid.

I'm in the same boat as you OP, I dont mind using my imagination to set myself goals to achieve, hey I love open sandbox games and flight sims. But the whole money progres to better ships its just.... I dont know how to put this. I`m flying sweet fitted Cobra, can do most of the stuff in game with it, dont feel like grinding more. With lots of things nerfed its becoming less and less fun and enjoyable to do. Time to take a break I guess.

Tedious, is how I would describe this game currently. But I'm sure by next year......or maybe the year after actually. Many features will be added.

I Am Flimley.

Even as the person who wrote that orange link thingy below, and who still enjoys stable, non-changing trade routes with ~14,000 cr/ton/hour profit flow (or better), and who 7 weeks after launch as a _casual_ player is only 30 million away from a completlely A-classed Python, I'll be the first to agree that...

ITS TOO DARN COMPLEX FOR THE TYPICAL GAMER. AND THAT MAKES THEM LEAVE AND BADMOUTH THE GAME.

Period.

I've tried in various "hard" games to write guides/wikis to help typical gamers get over the steep learning curve. And I constantly see games fail in the marketplace because they stubbornly stick to their designer guns about "making it for hardcore gamers". You know, like The Secret World. Or Wildstar. Or... sadly, this game.

I love this game; I think it's great and has great potential to grow into something really fun and deep. But not if they keep to their complex and opaque "black box" approach with their own audience.

Elite is not that complex, come on now. The only complex thing I can think of are the controls. Game is pretty self explanatory really, you just need to have a little bit of patience. Really, it's not even close with complexity to something like DCS or even FSX.

The game isn't complex you are right. It's accessibility is just obtuse.

Trading didn't make sense before the nerf. It still doesn't work like it should, but its a step in the right direction. Despite I am having fun with the game you made valid points and your post was well written, so have some rep!

Providing constructive criticism like you did is a good thing and since OP lacks the usual drama about betrayal and utterly broken game, I don't see a reason why this thread should derail.
